We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic lawyer to join the existing Reed Exhibitions legal team (comprising of four lawyers) on a fixed term (minimum 12 months) or permanent basis. You will You will based at the offices of, and provide support to, a business that has recently been acquired, namely, Mack Brooks. It operates a portfolio of approximately 40 B2B exhibitions, worldwide. You will have a proven track record of exceeding targets and a tenacious can do approach to finding practical legal solutions. Experience within exhibitions and magazines, and being able to speak German fluently, would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Liaising with event and magazine teams 
• Reviewing joint ventures and advising on structures/changes
• Assisting with post-completion requirements and integration
• Advising, negotiating and preparing contracts and precedents e.g. commercial contracts and trading agreements; standard terms of business; supply terms, advertising terms, agency and sales agreements and consultancy arrangements
• Reviewing website terms and terms of use of other media channels
• Reviewing business practices and monitoring compliance with data protection (GDPR), anti-bribery, Companies Act, EU/US sanctions and health and safety legislation and advising on compliance issues and issues raised in legal due diligence
• Advising on trade mark registrations, trade mark reviews on site at events and on websites and media channels, obtaining proof of use, assisting central trade mark office with requests for information 
• Advising on copyright issues and other IP matters, including use of social media, use of YouTube and other media channels
• Reporting to RX UK Head of Legal
• Assisting with company secretarial matters, such as drafting board minutes
• Assisting with litigation on contracts, trips and falls and insurance claims and instructing and managing external lawyers, where appropriate
 
Ideal candidate profile

• Six year plus qualified solicitor
• Enthusiastic Professional
• Knowledge and experience of advising on copyright and IP law, Data Protection Act/GDPR, Bribery Act and other compliance matters, contract and company law
• Good drafting skills and experience in negotiating and advising on commercial contracts, standard terms of business, website/media channel terms and conditions, advertising contracts, contributor agreements, IT contracts, joint ventures and partnerships
• Ability to work as part of a team and also independently in a supportive environment
• Commercial and decisive, self-motivated and able to respond to urgent requirements and to escalate matters, where appropriate
• Ability and willingness to communicate effectively at all levels 
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including presentations, report writing and the giving of clear advice
• Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to learn and understand the business
• Committed to providing an excellent service to the business
• Good organisational skills
• Ability to coach the event and business teams and support staff in their negotiations on commercial contracts
• Ability to build relationships within the business and with external lawyers and RELX tax, insurance and other departments
