Job Title: Senior Infrastructure & CI/CD Pipeline Automation Specialist

Location: Richmond, London, UK

Reports to: Engineering Manager – Technical Excellence

The opportunity

We’ve recently embarked on our journey to build our next generation Events Platform. We build services to enable our Event Teams to market, showcase and manage world-class exhibitions and delight our customers.

Our new Events Platform will host 500+ sites across 40 countries globally and needs to be available 24/7/365. It consists of a mixed of proprietary and open source technologies, with a wide variety of integrated (internal and external) systems.

We’re building our engineering team to develop high performance agile delivery teams. Trying to move at pace requires working with our Delivery, Development, Security, Networks and Platform Teams and thinking about security early and often.

We are looking for someone who is able to come up with creative solutions and make improvements to existing ones. Who is confident in the build, release and deployment of the software within a Cloud/AWS based infrastructure. Working alongside development, platform and operations teams to design, build and maintain our infrastructure,development and release pipelines.

Will design, optimise and manage the processes, determine standards, principles, policies, own the tooling, provide governance of the full end-end build, integration, release, deployment and hosting stages of our Software Factory. Continually monitor the effectiveness of the pipelines and promote improvements when necessary. Ensure production monitoring and alerting tooling in place and effective.

Provide expert advice, coach and training to engineers to empower them and be able to self-serve and support a highly collaborative environment. Work closely with platform engineers on hosting concerns, disaster recovery and business continuity planning.

Will use your expertise to simplify and streamline our processes so we can succeed at pace. You own and report on key metrics and measures to demonstrate business impacts are being made.


You will have to be passionate and have expert knowledge in Agile, DevOps cultures and software delivery techniques. To be successful you will need to be:

● Passionate about simplifying through automation to increase productivity and efficiency

● Able to provide expert opinion on the application build, integration, release, deployment and hosting operations stages of the Software Factory

● Knowledgeable, confident, collaborative and customer focused with respect to DevOps Culture & Practices

● Able to use a depth and breadth of experience to help, coach and train individuals within the product delivery teams

● Able to assist with project validation by identifying/evaluating areas of risk and devising mitigation strategies.

● A skilled negotiator obtaining buy–in from, and resolving conflict with various stakeholders.



● Enthusiastic promoter of CALMS / 3 Ways, Lean, DevOps and Rugged DevOps cultures with measured results

● Experience of working in mixed OS, Cloud, SaaS, Web and API application environments

● Experience of managing the build and deployment of mixed platforms (.Net/C# applications on Windows Platforms and Java based applications on Linux Platforms)

● Excellent understanding of Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, Deployment Pipelines, Green-Blue and Canary Deployment processes within the Software Factory

● Demonstrable skills in designing, optimising, maintaining and improving software build and deployment pipelines using Build Tools (e.g. MSBuild, Bamboo, Jenkins, TeamCity, Rake, Cake), Artifacts Repositories (e.g. Sonatype Nexus, Maven), Testing Tools (SonarQube), PowerShell & Bash scripting.

● At ease with troubleshooting in complex environments through experience using monitoring and logging tools (such as AppDynamics, NewRelic, Splunk, Nagios, Zabbix)

● Cloud and Network aware with AWS Experience and knowledge of Multi Region Topologies,  Auto Scaling, Load Balancers, Proxy Servers, SNS, SQS, DNS,  CDNs and WAFs

● Experience with Configuration Management Tools, Pipeline as Code, Infrastructure as Code

● Working with Delivery and Projects Teams to upskill and empower them, whilst ensure standards and best practices are baked into their Ways of Working

● Developing technical standards and processes to support high frequency application deployments (>1 deployment / day)

● Participation in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning


● Experience working with Containers, Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos, Vagrant, Chocolatey

● Experience deploying applications in environments with Events/Message Infrastructure

● Experience maintaining platforms with SQL Server/RDS, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Kibana

● Knowledgeable of Chaos Engineering and Chaos Monkey.

● Knowledgeable of .netcore, C#, Python, and/or Go programming

● Knowledgeable of Javascript and frontend development

● Knowledgeable of DevSecOps/Rugged DevOps & Security Testing and Continuous Testing throughout the Software Development Lifecycle

● Background working with Agile delivery teams, delivering micro-services and/or Enterprise Content Management

● Experience working with nearshore or offshore teams.

● Actively participating in the wider DevOps community.
