As a member of the global Centre of Expertise, you will primarily be responsible for providing support in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, analysis and reporting of sales and related revenue profile for the Research Solutions Sales portfolio as well as the day to day management of the sales environment of the Elsevier planning, planning budgeting and forecasting tool (Hyperion Planning). 

You will report directly to the Business Controller CoE Sales and Revenue RSS, and work closely with the Research Solutions Sales finance and management team.  There is a strong service oriented culture to build and maintain the reputation of the Centre of Expertise.


You will also be responsible for the delivery of support to the Business Controller CoE and the Research Solutions Sales team.  In addition; you will support the BC CoE S&R with the global set up, structural maintenance of e.g. effective forecasting tools for sales and revenue and standardization of reporting, and processes across Elsevier. You will support  the review of current practices and assist in developing tools to improve and standardize reporting, analysis and insights in the RSS business.


You will assist in ad-hoc projects and queries, be able to support the team mates (e.g. due to absence, and/or other Elsevier wide project(s)) when needed and become the go to person for RSS finance community. In this role you will be required to have well developed analytical and modeling skills, be a self-starter with a can do mentality, quick learner in a complex and demanding environment and have a keen eye for detail without losing sight of the bigger picture. 

Your responsibilities

Management Reporting and Analysis:

1. Provide high level support in preparation of BU monthly management financial reports and presentations: collect data, prepare/run reports etc.

2. Provide a wide range of analysis and support for other key stakeholders and resolve sales as well as finance inquires independently and raise issues timely.

3. Respond to ad-hoc requests for analysis and insights into financial information for the RSS team such as: use of data driven decision making and predictive analysis.  

4. Make sales insights available as much as possible via integrated dashboard reporting, analytics and visualization tools to increase the business insight that RSS can provide to the sales organization

Systems, Budgeting and forecasting:

1. Assist in budgeting and periodical forecasting cycles:  Budget, RF1/2/3 and LV.

2. Assist the Business Controller in communication requirements for planning, budgeting and forecasting process to the BDS organization, and work closely with the Business Controller CoE in conjunction with RSS management team to finalize the consolidated picture. 

3. Become an expert for the reporting and planning tools and other systems used by RSS. Become a super user to assist in questions and/or queries.

4. Periodically assist the RSS team and their management to simplify, streamline and centralize their routine processes in order to increase efficiency in finance.

Functional and Technical Competencies:


  • Financial skills: financial technical accounting standards and revenue accounting techniques
  • Business skills: robust knowledge of finance life cycle and processes
  • Communication skills: strong verbal and written communication skills, take initiative and clear messaging 
  • System knowledge: Excel (advanced level), Tableau (or equivalent BI Tool), KNIME experience an advantage, PowerPoint, OBIEE, Hyperion Planning, HFM, Oracle
  • Languages: strong English skills (spoken and written)


Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experiences:

  • Master’s degree in finance, accounting or a related field;
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in an analyst role required and experience working in a global organization in finance supporting a commercial organization.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of financial and management accounting, process and systems.
  • Affinity with large and complex international working environment.
  • Commercial and organizational awareness, ideally in a comparable industry.
  • Must be an advanced level Excel user, including the build of financial modeling tools. 
  • Experience with manipulating large amounts of data and PowerPoint, Hyperion Planning knowledge are required as well as the ability to quickly learn new systems/tools.
