Job Title:

Senior Business Intelligence Analyst

Purpose of the job:

Provide Business Intelligence solutions to the stakeholders in and beyond Elsevier. Develop intuitive ways for the users to manage vast information data from the Editorial and Production systems; Lead global Business Intelligence Universe development and testing to ensure the required data is reportable

Own data warehouses from business perspective and lead data warehouse development with respect to changing business requirements, system changes and continuous improvements.

Main Activities and Responsibilities

Report development

Translate users’ requirements into Business Intelligence solutions; 
Develop intuitive ways for the users to manage vast information data; 
Guide users in formulating information requests to address the needs; 
Build SQL queries; 
Explore/ develop technical solutions to continuously drive better use and access to information

Reporting environment and technical developments

Lead role in department with respect to design changes in primary corporate systems (namely EES and PTS) to support reporting capabilities to business
Ensure data from corporate applications is available to the business in a timely, accurate and complete fashion
Lead design and development of customer facing reporting portal
Liaise with database developers, system application managers on technical matters
Manage off-shore relationship with IT suppliers for departmental operations
Requirement setting, testing, of corporate data warehouse/marts (namely EESCDB and E2E – the primary corporate journal workflow reporting systems)
Own reporting environment surrounding journal databases/data marts (Business Objects universes owner, universes developer)

Relationship management

Build and maintain close relationships with all information stakeholders and report users
Help external parties (e.g. journal editors, vendors, suppliers, business partners) to define information needs 
Represent  the Operations reporting group globally with respect to collaboration with external departments (such as journal publishing, finance, operations)
Consult in projects where Business Intelligence expertise and/or development is required
Represent the department to business partners and update departmental activities
Collaborate with technical developments in discussions with CBS/RETS

Functional and Technical competencies:


·         7+ years Business Objects (BOXIR3) or related expertise in report and universe development

·         In-depth knowledge and skills in SQL query building and intermediate experience in Tableau or other visualization tools.

·         Understanding of ETL processes and data warehousing Webpage design experience, incl. JavaScript coding Visual Basic coding experience

·         Knowledge of databases, database processes and structures (back-end) 


Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:


·         Bachelors and/or Master’s agree in Computer Science or equivalent

·         Solid experience (7+ years) with complex databases/ workflow systems in publishing, banking, IT or other data intense industry

·         Experience with selecting, building and rolling out dashboard tools

·         Prince2 certified practitioner 

·         Excellent communications skills Fluent in English, both verbal and written
