The STMJ Marketing Project Team is a central unit operating in the Marketing Communications & Researcher Engagement department within the Science, Technology and Medical Journal (STMJ) Organization. The projects result from the STM journals communications strategy determined by the SVP Marketing Communications and typically impact marketing communications across portfolios for all or a selection of the over 2000 journals in the STM journals department.

The Marketing Project Team develops author services that strengthen the relation with our (potential) authors and reviewers and our journal brands in order to support our content growth strategy. Through our online and offline outreach and engagement projects, we champion Elsevier’s relations with journal & book authors and reviewers.

The Marketing Communications Manager is responsible for overall success of communication and content creation based projects assigned to them. Main projects include Researcher Academy on Campus author workshop program and free online training website Researcher Academy. Tasks include the content creation and promotion of that content towards (potential) (ECR) authors to engage them and bring them into contact with our journals brands and into our network, providing support at (online) events to improve overall corporate reputation and journal impact. The Marketing Communications Manager will be involved in the ECR and author onboarding Customer lifecycle Programs (CLMs). The Marketing Communications Manager reports through a dotted line into the Senior Project Manager responsible for the strategic management of Researcher Academy.
The Marketing Communications Manager is reporting to the Director Marketing Project office, located in Amsterdam.

Your requirements:


  • On general you are strong in builds relationships, takes initiative and communicates powerfully and prolifically;
  • As a Marketing Communication Manager, you have strong writing skills, E-marketing and digital marketing experience;
  • Can communicate effectively and persuasively with senior staff plus the ability to build and maintain good working relationships and understand constraints, cultural & political differences and work accordingly;
  • Influencing and negotiation skills
  • You can work independently and take decisions
  • Your attitude is results driven, based on data, initiator, strong drive to take projects further;
  • Open to work with and learn about technology and analytics
  • Bachelors degree is a minimum, preferably in Marketing and/or communications
  • Minimum 5 years in a strategic marketing or communications position
  • Minimum 2 years experience in publishing or related area
