The Finance Department is looking for an Assistant Financial Accountant to join their team in Richmond on a fixed term contract basis.

The job: This role will focus on the preparation of VAT returns and answering internal VAT queries.  

The main elements of the job are:
Prepare the VAT support for the UK and other European VAT returns;
Investigate and address any queries arising from the VAT returns;
Make timely VAT payments;
Investigate new VAT legislations and VAT on new products, as required;
Review VAT on exhibition and event set ups;
Answer business and customer queries about VAT;
Liaise and act on behalf of the company for VAT reclaims on expenses;
Prepare monthly VAT reconciliations, including investigating and clearing reconciling items promptly;
Produce the analysis for indirect tax computations for all group companies;
Provide cover for other members of the Financial Reporting team including tasks related to bank reconciliations and SOX compliance;
Liaise with RELX Indirect Tax Department, external advisors, government bodies and auditors, as required;

The candidate
This position requires a person who can demonstrate:

A good understanding of VAT in the UK and European Union and some understanding of international VAT;
An awareness of VAT for the exhibition and events sector;
Practical experience of undertaking VAT reconciliations and SOX compliance;
A drive for accuracy and completeness ensuring that reconciling items are correctly followed up in terms of correcting the error and, where necessary, correcting the process;
Take responsibility for the timely completion of VAT related tasks;
A team player able to demonstrate an awareness of when to escalate issues; 
Good time management to ensure tasks are completed to tight deadlines
Strong oral and written communication skills sufficient to provide clear explanations to non-finance personnel;
A good level of computer literacy, particularly Excel. Prior experience of Oracle would be an advantage.

Studying for or having an accountancy qualification would be an advantage but equally acceptable is for the person to be qualified by experience.
