Elsevier’s Digital Commons is currently seeking a senior full-stack software engineer to join our team and contribute to our suite of market leading products and to support the transformation of our technology.  We build Open Access digital library products to help academic communities share their research and teaching materials, showcase their achievements and academic quality, and promote their value across the educational space.  Our products support a major portion of the universities and colleges in the United States, including large state research institutions, Ivy League colleges, Liberal Arts colleges, law schools, business schools, community colleges, and medical schools and health centers.

Our typical stack includes Django/Python/PostgreSQL with Angular or React on the frontend.   Other technologies we use: Docker, AWS services, CircleCI, Elasticsearch, NodeJS, Terraform.  We also support and deploy a traditional LAMP style application using Linux, Apache, PostgreSQL, and Perl.  

We follow a Scrum workflow and use a push-button continuous integration and deployment workflow that includes code testing, analysis, and peer reviews. You bring innovative thinking, proven hands-on experience, a track record of successes and experimentation, and a commitment to excellence.

Experience (US only) and Education
  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience
  • BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required
  • Experience in:  Python, web architectures and protocols, RDBMs (PostgreSQL a plus), continuous integration and deployment.  Perl experience is a plus.

Technical Skills
  • Expertise in development languages including but not limited to: Python, JavaScript + HTML, SQL
  • Strong understanding of general web and software development best practices
  • Proficiency through the entire web application stack
  • Proficiency working with relational and “NoSQL” database systems, PostgreSQL experience a plus
  • Experience in Perl a plus
  • A love for solving complex business needs.
  • A well supported “I’ve been doing this awhile – I’ve got this” approach to new challenges and the humility to know that you can do it better with others.
