Elsevier Precision Medicine (PMed) is developing the next generation of advanced clinical decision support and research tools escalating the global use of personalized medicine in healthcare. Together with our partners, we leverage big data, machine learning, analytics, and predictive approaches to help facilitate the creation and deployment of knowledge for use by clinicians to improve patient diagnosis and treatment.


We now require a Lead Software Engineer to lead a small, diverse and very talented development squad of 4 people in this innovative healthcare environment.


As a Lead Software Engineer the successful individual will have the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of technology using machine learning, big data and new AWS services; will collaborate closely with the broader Clinical Solutions team to integrate all components of the platform to facilitate effective communications with all key systems – for example EHRs and security/compliance.


Our squads enjoy full autonomy regarding how they go about delivering against long and short-term goals, helping to ensure alignment and quality with the product team. The successful candidate will mentor the squad and actively contribute to new feature development/product delivery and code quality.


This is a particularly high-profile project within Elsevier and the successful applicants’ contribution will ultimately be transformative to the business.

Preferred experience and technology requirements:


Must haves:

  • Recent experience successfully leading a web application to a production ready state in an Agile environment
  • Strong hands-on Full Stack application development & SaaS development experience (5+ years) to include experience across languages and projects, preferably in JavaScript, using Node.js & React
  • Demonstrable experience of the SDLC, REST (and other API) development architecture.
  • Strong communications skills. The successful person will develop an immediate and credible presence with colleagues/stakeholders and will be experienced working in a large corporate environment.

 

 

 

Nice to haves:

  • Previous experience with healthcare technology, and/or familiarity with machine learning and big data applications and technologies would be a real plus!
