Elsevier is looking for a Senior Quality Test Engineer who can bring their passion for quality to help academic researchers to be successful in building their research knowledge. Mendeley Reference Manager has over 10 million registered academic researcher users in more than 150 countries worldwide. They love Mendeley because it helps them capture, store, organise and cite their knowledge. Our vision is to become the most trusted and popular reference manager in the market, and we’re investing heavily in the product to help us get there.

Our culture combines Elsevier's 130 year history of serving scientific research with significant investment into research products development, and the Mendeley team which retains much of a start-up atmosphere. This includes a strong focus on end users, highly collaborative ways of working, as well as hack days and Friday beer-o-clock.

We work in cohesive, self-contained teams empowered to deliver each aspect of the user experience. Each team follows an Agile process tailored to their requirements. We practice BDD, pair programming and CI with continuous deployment.

What you will do:

  • Develop, maintain and execute automated tests for assigned projects to successfully enable delivery of high-quality software products in a continuous delivery environment.
  • Advocate process improvements that enable efficient delivery and maintenance with consistent direction.
  • Research available tools and participate in initiatives to identify and implement those that will cost-effectively enhance testing capabilities and product quality.
  • Identify areas for cooperation with other teams to improve overall quality and, with peers or others, implement initiatives improving testing capability and efficiency.
  • Configure, maintain, and/or administer testing tools or environments.
  • Develop, write and execute manual tests, particularly, performing exploratory testing where/when required. Interact with Product Management, Project Management, Engineering, and Operations teams to plan testing for delivery of products and enhancements and to assure products meet product requirements and quality standards.
  • Report issues and results, researching, identifying and assisting in the resolution of root causes as appropriate, documenting accordingly.
  • Identify opportunities to apply existing automation or other tools to meet testing needs.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of best practices.

What you should bring:

Essential

  • Experience in setting up and defining test strategies and processes
  • Experience with a collaborative BDD approach to automated testing using CucumberJS or similar
  • Agile experience with Scrum / Kanban / XP
  • Node server side stubbing technologies, such as Nock
  • Understanding of async/await or promisified design patterns in JS
  • A collaborative and positive attitude, making you a great team player
  • Strong analytical skills (tools/root cause analysis)
  • Administration of testing tools/environments

Desirable

  • React state testing - Jest/Enzyme

Nice to have:

  • CI knowledge - preferably Jenkins
  • Docker knowledge - especially surrounding running tests in dedicated containers and deploying

We look forward to welcoming you into our diverse and passionate community of Quality Engineers!
