Purpose of the Job     
- To manage up to eight SpJs;
- To be part of the SpJ management group and strategic development for SpJs;
- Manage recruitment across the teams;
- Undertake occasional business travel on behalf of The Lancet Group;
- Undertake Group-wide business projects and strategic analyses as required.

Main Activities and Responsibilities:

  
Line Management 

Oversee recruitment ensuring the development of a cohesive and dynamic team that innovates, interacts and communicates effectively. Create a working environment, both managerially and functionally, that ensures streamlined processes, accurate reporting and efficient productivity across the team

- Mentor and coach staff; support and manage staff career progression
- Carry out the PDP (KPO setting and review, development discussions and action planning) and salary review processes and ensure consistency across the team
- Ensure that directly reporting staff with their own line management responsibilities comply with all of the above.

 

Operational 
Oversight of journal business development, new launches, indexing and business analytics as required. Publishing and editorial governance.   


SpJ management group and strategic development 
To contribute to the SpJ management group and strategic direction meetings for the SpJs, and to lead on discussion of topics/areas as allocated. To follow through to resolution/implementation as needed.   


Ad hoc projects 

Participate in projects that run across The Lancet Group and contribute to projects within Elsevier that require Lancet representation. This could be relevant to a pilot for a new product, service or business model or even to improving certain processes within our organization.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experiences (and any other requirements)     
- 5+ years relevant STM Publishing experience
- People management or comparable skills
- Knowledge of the publishing process and relevant market developments
- Proven track record of full awareness of applications and remaining up to date with Technology, Social Media and content enhancement in the scientific arena
- University degree in a relevant scientific field an advantage, preferably in the life or health sciences.
- Performance, results orientation and project management.
