Elsevier’s exciting and industry-changing Nursing and Health Education products are providing our client universities and their students with innovative ways to access and utilize learning material. The Elsevier Product Operations Team is responsible for product and operational management of platforms and services for Nursing and Health Education products. We are looking for a Senior Product Manager with proven product management and technical expertise to join the team! In this role, you will be responsible for driving the development and expansion of our core shared platform services that power external customer-facing educational solutions. You will work closely with application teams across Nursing and Health Education in the prioritization of platform feature requests and provide the strategic product direction and roadmap for multiple dedicated engineering teams.

Your responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain and convey a clear understanding of the entire ecosystem of Nursing and Health Education digital solutions.

  • Document those understandings, and maintain them.

  • Synthesize customer use cases and engineering team(s) feedback.

  • Manage the platform roadmap, backlog, sprints, and supporting documentation.

  • Evangelize and champion platform capabilities to all stakeholders.

  • Align teams around unified goals and timelines in support of business strategy.

  • Collaborate with architects on platform metrics, objectives, and key results to help guide and measure success.

  • Drive transparency and open lines of communication across platform consumers to ensure proactive understanding of needs and possible priority shifts

  • Actively seek various options and feedback, then balance application and engineering priorities to help drive reusable and scalable forward-looking solutions.

  • Understand and keep on top of emerging educational and learning technology standards (IMS Global standards) and how they may be applied within the organization.

What you’ll do:

  • Partner with Application Product Managers to translate key product scenarios and use-cases into capabilities that can be delivered by the platform engineering team.

  • Ensure continuous communication with application teams to gain a sense for where the market is heading.

Technical Skills:

  • Understand the platform, services, and underlying technologies to help design new platform capabilities.

  • Ability to understand deeply technical systems across the educational software portfolio and communicate it clearly and knowledgeably to both technical and non- technical audiences

  • Keep current on new technologies to support new product development efforts.

  • Be comfortable with self-service technical tasks (e.g., making API requests, running SQL queries, etc.)

Strategy & Commercial Acumen:

  • Use knowledge of competitors to inform product decisions and roadmaps.

  • Evangelize and socialize platform strategy, vision and value proposition with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Maximize ROI by working to figure out the best time to deliver, or Cost of Delay

  • Write or support business cases for investment.

  • Understand how to use data to drive commercial decisions and growth opportunities for the platform.

Product Delivery & Development Lifecycle:

  • Have a thorough understanding of the broader product experience.

  • Have a thorough understanding of the agile process and software development lifecycle (SDLC).

  • Help drive solutions for complicated design challenges.

  • Assist application product owners with writing clear and detailed user stories for platform capabilities.

  • Work autonomously and manage platform in collaboration with technical architects and front line engineers.

  • Deliver platform capabilities to market, and coordinate launch plans with external customer facing teams such as marketing and sales.

Data-Driven Decision Making & Analysis:

  • Use metrics to define and track progress against KPIs.
  • Be proficient at pulling and accessing data from multiple sources and managing despite data ambiguity.

  • Consider various options to balance complex conflicting priorities.

  • Be comfortable with analytical, data-driven approaches.


What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Minimum 4 years of product management experience with strong technical background working with platforms.
  • Proven experience managing existing product(s) and releasing new products or product features to the market, from collaborative conceptualization to execution to post-release management.

  • Meaningful engineering engagements that lead to positive software outcomes.

  • Proven agile and iterative software product development expertise.

  • Excellent oral and writing communication skills.

  • Familiarity with APIs, microservices, cloud-native web services and analytics driven platforms

  • Bachelor’s degree (computer science, information sciences, or engineering degree preferred)

  • Experience with LTI, LMSs, and educational technologies.
