Analyst – North American Carbon Markets

The analyst position we are recruiting will be involved in producing and communicating mainly quantitative analysis for Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and Western Climate Initiative (WCI). In doing so, the analyst will work closely together with our editorial and analyst team to cover the full range of market analysis.


The analyst will especially cover quantitative analysis and our modelling of demand (emissions), supply and prices.


You will be part of an international team, which requires occasional travel within North America and sometimes to Europe. As of day one, you will be tasked with challenging analytics projects and be in contact with customers and prospects across the American energy landscape.

Main accountabilities/responsibilities

  • Deliver quantitative analysis by defining assumptions and scenarios for our models
  • Enhance our legacy models by re-implementing them in Python
  • Be responsible for our database and work in close collaboration with the data team to ensure consistency and availability of data
  • Participate in the delivery of regular reports and ad-hoc analysis and data publications
  • Explain our analysis to clients and other market participants (includes quantitative analysis like model results)
  • Be in active contact with ICIS reporters and market participants
  • Represent ICIS on fairs & conferences or in customer meetings

Key skills required

  • Analytical mind-set, critical thinking and affinity to energy markets
  • Basic understanding of North American carbon (and energy) markets
  • Good data handling skills (e.g. SQL)
  • Experience with modelling and data processing in Python (or other programming languages)
  • Previous relevant professional experience (1+ years) desirable in the power/energy sector
  • Very good communication skills in English
  • University degree (Bachelor or higher) in relevant field
