Lead Software Engineer - Search & Discovery

We are looking for a talented, hands-on Lead Software Engineer with strong problem solving, leadership and technical capabilities to join the Elsevier search & discovery team and lead a squad of engineers. The candidate must demonstrate experience advocating for their engineering team in conversations with product and other stakeholders, with driving process improvement and in building scalable, high-performing software systems. The successful candidate will also spend a good proportion of their time close to the technology developing software.

Preferred experience and technology requirements:

Must haves:  

  • Recent career history operating as a senior software engineer or the Technical Lead of a small engineering team.
  • Experience developing RESTful and other API services.
  • Client and server development experience (7+ years) using Java.
  • Demonstrable experience developing high availability, scalable applications.
  • Strong hands-on Agile development experience.
  • Experience working with product owners to create and refine stories based on requirements.  

Nice to haves: 

  • Cloud development experience (AWS)
  • Infrastructure automation tools (chef, ansible, puppet)
  • Search technology experience (Solr, Lucene)
