We require a Power Market Analysis Intern to support the ICIS European Power and Carbon team in London, UK. The interns will work alongside two senior analysts in the ICIS office in Liverpool Street, London. We are looking for someone who can perform both qualitative and quantitative research.

You will be encouraged to take on your own projects and will have the flexibility to combine your work with your dissertation or thesis if relevant. Based on your performance and the needs of the business, you may be offered a permanent position in the company after your internship. The internship will run for six or nine months from November 2019.

In order to apply for this internship, you will need to:
• Be a current university student
• Have the right to work in the UK
• Be available to work in the London office at 99 Bishopsgate, London
• Commit to at least ten hours per week for six months or for nine months

Company and team
The ICIS European Power and Carbon team provides analysis, data and tools on European electricity markets and has a pan-European power price model. As an intern you will have a role in shaping the development of these products.

Key responsibilities
• Monitoring changes in the electricity markets in Europe and assessing their impact on prices
• Understanding and analysing policy and legal developments that affect energy
• Researching and analysing renewable support schemes across European countries
• Understanding and writing about price dynamics between electricity and other commodities
• Project management
• Writing analysis reports, white papers and presentations


Key skills required
• Fluency in English, other European languages would be an asset
• Interest in energy markets
• One year of relevant work experience desired but not essential
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Studying towards a degree in energy, finance, data science, economics or similar
• Work individually and be responsible for your own project and deadlines
• Modelling skills with the ability to use database querying tools such as SQL and development languages Python desired
• Good understanding of data modelling principles an advantage
