The Director of Product Management Engineering Solutions will own the end-to-end life-cycle of the Knovel product from ideation to retirement. Knovel comprises structured and unstructured content that is consumed by practicing engineers and engineering students training to be engineers or engineering researchers. Specifically, the person will support the Engineering commercial strategy by identifying core customer-centric use cases, by customer segment, required to delight our customers, provide clear competitive advantage and deliver sustainable business value; this involves owning the content and data strategy and developing the platform experience / capabilities / features / functions / tools required to deliver the content optimized for customer consumption and to drive improved customer outcomes. The person will manage a team of product managers and will ensure a data-driven and commercially-driven approach to selecting and curating content; to developing platform features, functions and tools and optimizing for mobile platforms to provide customers with an excellent multi-device and multi-platform experience; and to develop capabilities to deliver content in to 3rd party platforms as required.

The person will help define the product strategy and own and deliver the product roadmap, including Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) that capture the roadmap requirements, and agile delivery vehicles such as epics, sprints, stories and versions. Collaborate with the technology and platform operations teams to deliver detailed use cases required to deliver on the roadmap; collaborate with sales and marketing on go-to-market activities to drive commercial success of the roadmap deliverables, including where required market analysis, pricing studies, development partner and early adopter programs including product betas. In addition, the person will network with other Elsevier product and content heads to evangelize the best practices within Engineering and where ever possible adapt and leverage common synergies with processes, technology and ideas from other Elsevier products to deliver customer value, efficiencies of scale and faster time-to-market. Work closely with the customers and prospects to understand market trends, competitive environment, emerging needs, identify and validate opportunities for improvements in existing platform and content.

 

Main Activities and Responsibilities 

Knovel Product Roadmap

Own the customer-centric, data-driven and commercially focused roadmap and the on-going development and maturing of the Knovel product including content strategy, and the platform feature, function and tools for web, mobile and delivery in to 3rd party platforms. Collaborate with the platform operations team on capabilities required to operationalize the product such as taxonomy, vendor specifications, search algorithm update, product documentation, and training updates. Collaborate with the technology team to execute the roadmap plans through agile sprints. Collaborate with customers/market to capture and validate existing and emerging needs. Represent the ‘voice of the customer’ at all times.

 

Go-to-Market

Own the success of the go-to-market efforts to drive early adoption of key commercial releases. Close collaboration with sales, marketing, other related product groups and customers to develop compelling holistic value propositions, thought leadership and drive mindshare with internal stakeholders on commercial releases.

Team

Hire, develop and coach a team of high-performing customer-focused, innovative results-driven and collaborative product managers with an emphasis on domain knowledge (engineering/science), technology (web, mobile, content - structured and unstructured, analytics, UI/X, search, integration), and process (stage-gate, market validation, artifacts such as PRDs and agile delivery methodology)

 

Process

Drive development and go-to-market processes through effective stage-gate methodology and lead the interfacing with technology, sales and marketing teams. Adopt and champion SVPG best practices in all stages and aspects of product management.

 

MAIN ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·    -Manage, coach and develop a team of high-performing, pro-active, customer-focused, results-driven and collaborative team with an emphasis on innovation, domain knowledge (engineering/science), technology (web, mobile, content - structured and unstructured, analytics, UI/X, search, integration) and process (stage-gate, market validation, artifacts such as PRDs and agile delivery methodology)

·    -Advocate the adoption of agile methodologies and OKR process cross-functionally. Adopt and champion SVPG best practices in all stages and aspects of product management.

 Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experiences 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or another scientific discipline; advanced degree is advantageous.
  • Experience delivering information solution to engineering intensive industries such as chemicals, oil & gas, aerospace, industrial machinery, design and construction, and pharma.
  • Additional degrees or certifications in product management is preferred.
  • Demonstrable success in developing and delivering digital information / analytics solutions that drive customer and business value from both content and functionality (BOTH required). Experience of applying Artificial Intelligence and / or Machine Learning is advantageous.
