The Director, Global Compensation will be responsible for leading the Compensation team and function for Risk & Business Analytics (RBA) division and serve as a key contributor and member of the broader RELX compensation team.  The successful candidate for this position will partner with RBA leadership to establish compensation strategy and design within the context of the RBA human resources strategy to attract, retain, and reward top talent. The position will coordinate compensation activities and delivery across the RBA business units and will lead communication, messaging, and training related to compensation programs for the business.  The candidate will work closely with the Senior Human Resources Leadership team at RBA leveraging the work and support of common Human Resource systems, tools, and processes.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as compensation thought leader and process owner for Risk & Business Analytics, providing guidance to business HR and leadership on incentive compensation, market benchmarking, salary structure design, job evaluation, and merit planning
  • Lead and coordinate the platform-wide nomination, planning, and approval processes related to the RBA incentive and equity compensation programs
  • Provide counsel to RBA HR and leaders on compensation issues related to recruiting and candidate offers and associate promotion, recognition, and retention actions
  • Develop an effective communication approach to ensure that the compensation programs are fully understood and appropriately valued by RBA HR staff and associates
  • Partner with Legal and Human Resources to ensure compliance with all federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations across the globe
  • Develop process excellence tools/processes through the use of technology
  • Strong understanding of different laws and pay structures for other countries with added emphasis on the UK territory, Brazil, India, the Netherlands, China, Australia, France, and Spain
  • Identify tools to benchmark and innovate reward practices and recommend changes
  • Analyze, review and assess the effectiveness of Total Rewards programs to ensure objectives are being met and recommend/implement changes as appropriate
  • Lead a team of compensation professionals

HR Operations:  

  • Direct the administration of the HRIS system (Workday) with the central Shared Services operations team; In partnership with Shared Services evaluate and recommend changes to support current and future Workday application requirements
  • Ensure integrity of the HRIS data, reporting, and client interface

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Exceptional analytical and reporting skills, must be highly data-driven
  • Proven strategic business partner, with an excellent sense of operations, as well as commercial activities and an appreciation for the interplay between the two
  • Ability to prepare and communicate clear and compelling messages to senior leadership
  • Strong analytical and reasoning abilities
  • Executive presence and excellent interpersonal, oral and written and communication skills
  • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive but able to recognize and support the organization’s preferences and priorities
  • Results oriented with the ability to balance other business considerations
  • Broad understanding of the technical and functional components of compensation, including:; compliance; planning; M&A due diligence and integration, employee communications; training and employee relations
  • Technical proficiency in HR processes
  • Business Knowledge – includes value added perspective, financial awareness and cost control, industry knowledge, strategic focus, diverse business experience
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office products:  PowerPoint; Excel, Word

Qualifications

  • 7+ years progressively responsible experience leading and managing Compensation team in mid-to-large sized corporations. (including working with global responsibilities)
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) preferred
  • Workday experience preferred

  • Minimal travel
