Data Scientist – Power Markets

You will be involved in developing market leading analysis driven by quantitative predictive market models. As Data Scientist, you will work together with our modelling team in our Analytics Centre and our Market Analysts worldwide. You will operate and co-develop market models for energy trading in Europe, applying a wide range of techniques including multiple regression, machine learning, optimisation and semi-fundamental auction models. Your initial focus will be on short-term models for Europe’s biggest power markets (Germany, UK, France). You will be part of an international team, benefitting from their modelling experience.

As part of your role you will be discussing current developments in energy markets. This includes the energy transition to highly renewables based power generation and its impact to the market.

Main responsibilities

·     Develop data-driven quantitative market models to predict market variables

·     Build a deep understanding of energy markets, starting with power short-term

·     Analyse and discuss current market drivers in the team

·     Develop, maintain and improve routines and data preparations

·     Take responsibility in the team for live operations

·     Constantly learn new techniques (eg machine learning) and apply to existing problems

·     Be in direct contact with customer and attend exhibitions & conferences

Key skills

·     Good programming skills (eg Python, Matlab, Java) and SQL

·     Analytical mind-set, critical thinking, and excellent teamwork

·     First project experience in statistical modelling or machine learning

·     Ability and strong motivation to build profound knowledge in complex markets

·     Good communication skills in German & English

·     University degree with a background in economics or quantitative science

·     Possibly existing in-house work experience in a utility or power trading company, can be internships
