Content Development Specialist

Purpose of the Role:

The Content Development Specialist (CDS) assists the Learning Content Manager (LCM) with the development of content for competitive, innovative new or revised products that meet market needs and are designed to drive usage and grow market share.  Manages assigned projects from inception to production release utilizing  e-workflows and technology as appropriate.  Serves as the day-to-day contact for internal and external content development partners including Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Instructional Designers (IDs) and vendors throughout the development process. 

Main Activities and Responsibilities:

Manage day-to-day content development

  • In conjunction with the LCM, plans learning content development and delivery cadence
  • Plays a key role in daily stand-ups with the internal and external content development partners
  • Ensures lead and peer review SMEs are delivering work products per schedule
  • Proactively identifies potential issues with SMEs and works with the LCM to find alternative approaches to mitigate risks
  • Oversees reviews from SMEs, consolidates reviews, queries SMEs and outsourced vendors as appropriate to ensure quality on-time content delivery
  • In conjunction with the LCM and other internal participants develops and/or brings forth suggestions for improving existing writing, assessment and instructional design guidelines
  • Performs high-level review of all stages of module and detailed outlines, assessments, and content storyboards and sends them to the appropriate partners for detailed review
  • Coordinates with other participants and/or drives permission and art research as needed
  • Coordinates vocabulary mapping, EAQ/TB and ancillary mapping tasks as needed with the help of internal and external resources
  • Coordinates delivery of build content and oversees UAT fixes and ensures gold delivery of assigned course product
  • Plays a key role in ensuring on time delivery

Effective communications

  • Provide / support / maintain timely communications between internal and external teams
  • Establish ongoing communication plans
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal colleagues and outsourced vendors
  • Provide guidance on the impact to the timeline of any proposed changes to functional scope

General Knowledge and Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of health education markets
  • Product development process
  • Product development lifecycle including multiple approaches such as Agile, waterfall, and iterative
  • Project coordination skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office applications


Required Education and Experience:


  • B.A./B.S. in English or related area required.
  • Two or more years’ experience with eContent development preferred. 
  • Experience with media (online courses, multimedia, etc.) a plus.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Flexible and creative approach to problem solving, resourceful, decisive, with attention to detail.
  • Work independently without close supervision.
  • Able to foresee and avert problems. Manage SMEs and interact professionally with SMEs and colleagues.
  • Manage several complex projects simultaneously.
  • Be flexible to deal with high velocity situations without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Take ownership of projects throughout the content development process.
  • Knowledge of publishing process and MS Office. Some familiarity with EPUB, HTML5, HTML, and XML.
