About Ascend

Ascend by Cirium is a cornerstone in the aircraft finance market, having been around for over 50 years under various names. Within Ascend, the valuations team provides aircraft appraisals and market insight that supports the global aviation finance market.

About the Role

The role has four core parts:

·         Aviation Asset Valuations

·         Team Leading

·         Business Development

·         Product Development

The first of these will be on delivering, and overseeing the delivery by your team, of analysis and opinions regarding the values of a wide variety of aviation assets (commercial aircraft, helicopters, business jets, engines and simulators). You will also have access to the full breadth of our consulting services and have the opportunity to contribute to bespoke consulting projects for our global client base.

Secondly, working closely with the Heads of Consultancy and Consultancy Operations, and practice heads (Valuations and Advisory) as a leader and mentor to support the team to allow them to develop their skills and subject matter expertise, while ensuring they deliver objectives with enthusiasm, maintaining a strong positive team culture.

Thirdly support the Cirium sales team in scoping client projects and in winning business through active market participation. This will include attendance and presentation at multiple industry events and client meetings on a global basis.

Supporting product development is the final key part of the role, again individually and managing your team in this field. This includes developing methodology to match client needs, putting forward new ideas, acting as a subject matter expert to the technology/product team, collaborating on new product development and testing new products.

Practice Responsibilities

·         Deliver client valuations as required

·         Research, collect and normalise aircraft trading data points

·         Present value change proposals to the Value Review Boards (commercial, helicopter, business jet and aero-engines)

·         To grow and maintain your network of industry contacts to derive and share market intelligence across the entire commercial aviation space

·         To learn, review and further develop the methodologies and practices of Ascend by Cirium

·         To contribute to and write Ascend by Cirium’s suite of commercial aircraft, helicopter, business jet and aero-engine market commentaries, white papers, value change updates and regular research articles.

·         Work on broader advisory client projects as required


Management Responsibilities


·         Lead the education and development of a team of up to five Valuations Analysts, in respect of valuations delivery, valuations methodology, data research, values change proposals and delivery of all products

·         Support, train, oversee and mentor that team in all aspects of their roles, including delivery, business development, building industry network, client relationships, attending industry events and speaking externally. 

·         Ensure team is being utilised effectively to deliver all client and other assignments in a timely and efficient manner

·         Leading new recruitment, on boarding new starters and overseeing the probation process

·         Providing regular feedback to senior management

Business Development

·         Support the global sales team in client growth and retention by understanding client needs and identifying new opportunities.

·         Deliver joint presentations with the Sales team including industry updates, market overviews and methodology insights to customers.

·         Speak at conferences, Cirium promoted events, customer briefings and other industry events

·         Contribute to webcasts and short videos

Product Development

·         Contribute to product development through new product ideas, review existing products (from a customer perspective) and drive development of products for the aviation market.

·         Act as an “internal user” tester of new consultancy products from a content and usability perspective.

·         Provide on-going support to the needs existing product strategy.


Skills and experience

·         Having a senior level, or equivalent, of aviation/aviation finance industry experience with appraisal experience is ideal, but alternative experience that can be applied to the role will be considered.

·         Commercial aviation knowledge including aircraft, airlines, manufacturers, current major industry issues, etc. A passion for aviation is a big plus.

·         Demonstrate aptitude to manage a team. Previous management experience is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.  

·         Competence in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint is essential; knowledge of MS Access, SQL and Python is an advantage but not mandatory.

·         Solid numerical skills and the ability to learn and adapt to new methods.

·         Proven research skills; clear and concise analysis and report writing.

·         Practiced and proven communication and presentation skills.

·         Fluent in written and spoken English, knowledge of a second language is also a plus but not essential.
