We’re looking for an Assistant Commissioning Editor to join our Current Awareness team to commission market-leading case comment. This is not a writing role and the ideal candidate will be a journalism graduate willing to learn about the ins and outs of commissioning legal analysis. 

 

The role sits within the Current Awareness team reporting to the Commissioning Manager for Cases, with a dotted line to the Current Awareness Managing Editors.

 

The team: The LexisNexis Current Awareness team provides news coverage to LexisLibrary and LexisPSL. We cover breaking legal and regulatory stories and provide insight into how they could impact lawyers and their clients. We monitor government sites along with all UK and European regulatory institutions to ensure our customers are kept up-to-date and informed about the latest developments in their field of expertise. We work closely with internal teams to provide timely and accurate information to our products. We provide our news to customers throughout the day online and in customer email alerts. Our content is also surfaced through LexisNexis Newsdesk.

 

What would you be doing? We are seeking candidates with a love of news and an interest in how legal concepts shape our society. The Assistant Commissioning Editor will be responsible for commissioning case comment and will strive to ensure copy is submitted within deadline (48 hours from commissioning request to publication). Successful candidates will be expected to establish and build strong relationships with external experts and internal teams to enable the delivery of current awareness content that is meaningful to our customers. 

 

More specifically, your role would be: 

  • To commission case commentary from expert contributors and expert panel members across multiple legal practice areas to provide on-the-day current awareness comment
  • To build and maintain strong relationships with these authors and panel members to ensure delivery of daily case comment as required
  • Take responsibility for all administrative aspects relating to the commissioning process (invoicing, payments, contracts, etc.)
  • In conjunction with the Current Awareness Team, to oversee all aspects of the delivery and output of the content to ensure quality and consistency
  • To build and maintain strong relationships with all internal teams engaged in the creation of the current awareness comment and to collaborate effectively to improve the quality of the current awareness output
  • To proofread copy 
  • To review, and carry out post-publication quality control, of published content
  • Assist with collating usage and efficiency statistics
  • To carry out any other duties, as required
 
 


 

 

 

 

 
Skills and qualifications
  • University graduate—preferably Journalism/Law/English/Politics/Accountancy or qualified by experience in the B2B/Professional publishing industry
  • Willing to learn new skills and adapt to new ways of working
  • Deadline driven who is happy to deliver content to tight and demanding timescales across multiple projects
  • Tech savvy
  • Broad understanding of legal and tax markets and the UK legal system is an advantage
  • Familiarity with content management systems is an advantage
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills
  • Willingness to take on administrative tasks
  • Strong spoken communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Ability to influence and persuade others
  • Familiar with spreadsheets and databases
