Title- Sr. Tax Specialist


This role is to support RELX with the compliance work. It is an efficient way for RELX to work with the Tolley team, it has a direct cost impact. RELX would have to a premium to get the same work done via an external consultant.


We are also expanding the scope of work for the tax team; the team will be working on more complex tax work and by doing that we will be reducing billing hours for few freelancers.

Core Accountabilities

Compliance Work

·         Analyse the expenditure and general ledger data and prepare a report of the items to be included in the PSA

·         Calculate the tax and NIC liabilities due, e.g. ensuring that employee marginal tax rates are not overstated

·         Prepare compliance return e.g., PAYE Settlement Agreement calculations, and support the Manager responsible for the team’s compliance portfolio

·         Ability to understand and apply double taxation agreement.

·         Understanding on payroll/withholding tax, social security and immigration obligation for Short term business travelers.

·         Work independently and as part of an established team focusing on providing employment tax services


Content updating and creation of UK Tax material

·         Updating all references to tax years

·         Updating and checking all numerical examples within the content

·         Liaising by telephone and email with the technical writing team in the UK

·         Suggesting improvements in technical material and processes and participating in update discussions.

·         Support the exam training work for scripts, lectures, marking

·      Ensuring that work is completed to a high degree of accuracy

·      Completing work within budget

·      Ensuring work is completed by the stated deadlines

·      Identifying where questions need to be changed to ensure the core point of the exercise is tested

·      Looking for, and suggesting, improvements to material

·      The ability to grow with the role and take on more advanced work.

·      Multitasking – being able to manage multiple opportunities and tasks at any given time.



Education: Specialized/ Technical

·   Degree qualification in a numerate or commercial subject

·   Experience in a UK/US tax role (at least 2-4 years)


·   Rational / logical approach to all aspects of work and to problem solving

·   Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal

·   Attention to detail

·   Experience in UK corporate or personal tax

·   Ability to prioritize and to work in a deadline driven environment

·   Demonstrable organizational and administrative skills
