Elsevier’s data (such as customer records, product metadata, sales and marketing information, financial data, supplier records, and material masters) reside in 100+ systems, presenting unique challenges in defining and implementing common standards for quality and protection, as well as in maintaining clear and linked ownership for managing data. Process and system efficiencies combined with high levels of data quality and the ability to analyze the data fully and efficiently across the company are essential to the continued success of our company.

The Data & Analytics Organization is responsible for defining the vision for Data and Analytics as well as implementing data and analytics solutions for the benefit all of Elsevier’s business units.  To help us deliver on our product master data roadmap targets we are seeking a Product Data Analyst.

The position will support the Head of Product Master Data and will focus on gathering, analysis and integration of product data between various enterprise systems.
 

The post-holder will be responsible for:
  • Facilitating effective capture, maintenance and use of product master data through the elicitation of business requirements, development of business analysis artefacts (process maps, stakeholder analysis, benefits maps, etc.), application of process improvement methodologies and implementation of relevant tools in line with business needs.
  • Monitoring of data quality and analysis of data quality issues in order to identify the root causes and drive resolution of such issues, including implementation of monitoring rules, in liaison with business stakeholders, system owners and the IT delivery team.
  • Maintaining the product master data platform backlog, driving sprint planning , driving delivery of planned items and communicating effectively with all stakeholders involved in the end-to-end process.
  • Supporting data governance activities of the unit by engaging with stakeholders and providing knowledge, assistance and training as necessary.

What you will bring to the team?

  • Solid understanding of business process methodology, analytics and data management experience required.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Understanding of the Master Data Management (MDM) principals and experience with MDM solutions preferably in product domain 
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and preferably Tableau, Qlik, Microsoft Power BI and R, Python.
  • Exposure to relational databases such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL 
  • Experience of integration tools such as Knime would be advantageous
  • Advanced MS Office (Word/PowerPoint/MS Project) especially Excel skills a given
  • Good commercial awareness
  • Confident presenting to and working with up various levels of business stakeholders
  • Knowledge of/ability to get quickly up to speed with Elsevier's technology/systems landscape required
 
 

We expect that you have:

  • BS or BA degree (BS in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Management, Engineering or Statistics are ideal)
  • 3+ years practical data analysis/computing/commercial experience in an analytical role, preferably in a large, global organisation
  • 3+ years experience in business analysis of business and/or digital transformation projects
  • Results driven with high level of attention to detail as well as customer-focused
  • Data management literacy is essential, particularly MDM, data quality and data governance
  • Data visualisation experience essential, e.g. presenting actionable insights in a simple story. Knowledge of visualisation tools especially Tableau is highly desirable
  • Previous experience in analytical projects and delivering assigned tasks on time, meeting quality expectations
  • Able to communicate complex, detailed technical/analytical data via enhanced verbal and written communication skills including to non-technical/analytical audience/Senior management level as required
  • Working across global (matrix) organisations to obtain required detailed input to data requirements to define complex, multi-faceted use cases.
  • Cooperative and team player who easily gains trust and support of peers and senior management 
  • Ability to build effective working relationships/network with users and stakeholders
  • Understands cultural differences with the ability to interact appropriately with stakeholders across the globe
  • Analytical, numerate and technical mindset and innovative thinker mentality
  • Customer-service driven and keen understanding of customer needs and expectations
  • Willingness to travel
