Operational Risk Control Specialist

  • An independent challenger of 1st line of defence controls, this role will be focused on supporting the business by:

  • Identifying, documenting and testing first line controls

  • Providing support in establishing plans to either implement or improve and strengthen first line controls; and

  • Designing and implementing operational risk reporting practices, such as documentation of findings of control testing and monitoring processes

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop 1st line control framework across all functions for the UK business

  • Conduct regular, timely & appropriate audits of the first line controls in place to meet our regulatory obligations, including the appropriate documentation of all business processes Establish regular reporting framework, providing assurance of business performance

  • Partner with 2nd & 3rd line functions, ensuring a smooth flow of information, findings and remediations throughout the business

  • Acquire & develop knowledge of local regulatory frameworks & guidelines regarding operational risk management, together with any influencing EU and/or international equivalents

  • Develop and maintain an in depth understanding of all business objectives, identifying & recommending where process improvements will generate efficiencies

  • Build & maintain effective working relationships with key business partners across the organisation.

Security/Training Responsibilities:

  • To comply with the Company’s information security and data protection policies and the Company’s Integrated Management System (IMS) at all times

  • To follow all instructions as laid out within the IMS and local instructions offered by management

  • To study and be aware of relevant controls and instructions as highlighted within the IMS

  • To agree to utilise and manage all assets as stipulated

  • To report security and data protection events, incidents, or concerns via the standard reporting procedures as set out in the IMS

  • To partake in on-going security and data protection competence tests as required

  • To maintain at all times the confidentiality of all the company’s privileged data and secrets, and not to divulge the same

Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Compliance

  • To comply with the Company’s FCA policies and processes

  • Attend FCA training provided by the Company, to gain awareness and understanding of the FCA principles for businesses

  • Perform day-to-day activities in accordance with the requirements and spirit of the FCA principles for businesses.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree level or equivalent relevant qualification
  • Relevant risk management or compliance qualification

  • Proven risk management, controls or audit experience

  • Demonstrable knowledge of control frameworks and risk-based control testing techniques

  • Excellent project management and analytical skills

  • Ability to independently evaluate & maintain a level of professional scepticism

  • Strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills

  • Experience of working with a sense of urgency and possessing a strong tendency towards action

  • Outstanding networking capabilities, with a professional demeanour

  • Strong ability to promptly manage and respond to numerous tasks and initiatives while maintaining attention to the detail. 

  • Able to work as part of a team, accomplishing mutual team goals
