GCSE (or equivalent) English and Mathematics

NVQ/SVQ in Business and Administration (Levels 3 and 4) or OCR Higher Diploma in Administrative and Secretarial Procedures

A good understanding of SRA Handbook and knowledge of legal document production.

A basic understanding of legal terminology.

Amending and typing lengthy and complex documents and correspondence.

Experience as a Legal Secretary within a reputable firm of UK Solicitors.

Experience of a modern case management system such as Visualfiles or Proclaim.

Experience of a modern practice management system such as Elite, Artiion, Aderant, Iris, Practice CS.

MS Office experience with proficiency in Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.

Audio typing with good speed (at least 70 words per minute) and accuracy

Numerate, articulate and well presented

Excellent organisational and planning skills

Evidence of being able to work under pressure and deliver to tight and demanding timescales


Legal Secretaries Diploma run by the Institute of Legal Secretaries and PAs (ILSPA)

City & Guilds/ILEX Level 3 Certificate for Legal Secretaries

An understanding of the legal community and market

Familiarity with corporate governance, risk and compliance areas of law.
