The VP, Trade Channel is responsible for evolving and executing the sales, marketing and account management strategy across our trade partners (such as Amazon, Google, Apple, Barnes & Noble, Follett). He/she will oversee department, driving revenue performance, strategic partnerships and account management processes to ensure individual and departmental performance goals are met. This person will lead the effort for new distribution partnerships that enable us to achieve sustained profitable growth, while meeting company objectives, including:
  • Budget commitments across multiple business units
  • Leading and coordinating execution of our product and channel mix optimization
  • Driving a data and analytics driven approach to customer engagement and operational execution
  • Developing an informal center of excellence in customer-facing commercial data analytics
  • Global distributor management for optimal Elsevier-level benefit conducted in partnership w/ global colleagues
 
Key Result Areas: Activities and Responsibilities
 
General Management
Ensure optimal department structure, incentives, and strategies to achieve business objectives. Translate division business strategy into measurable product and channel mix, and customer engagement goals.
 
Business Development
Play hands-on role in developing strategic partnerships and programs with key customers. Model strong C-level engagement and partnership building capabilities. Develop large-scale partnerships with key organizations to extend the reach of our content, product and application assets.
 
Product and Channel Execution
Optimize business model mix, forecasting and planning new business model development to respond to market trends and opportunities.  Address evolving industry demands while meeting revenue and profit goals.  Address secondary markets, especially rental and counterfeit.
 
Global Distributor Management
Develop strategy and execution plan to expand impact and effectiveness of global distributors to drive incremental revenue, profit contribution, and strategic spend.
 
Data Analytics
Maximize analytic expertise to guide business decision and direction.  Use insights to optimize inventory positions with partners.
 
Financial Forecasting and Management
Drive excellence in financial performance and ensure accurate information is generated to aid in forecasting activities.
What you should bring:
  • Exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal – adapting to audience of all organizational levels up to, and including, internal and external C-level executives.
  • Demonstrated business development experience and results
  • Strong business skills including business acumen, financial focus and orientation, strong organization of time, people and information.
  • Commercial outlook, with understanding of how to utilize multiple marketing and sales techniques in variety of B2B and B2B2C environments.
  • Expertise in collaborating across a global, matrix environment, especially with Sales, Marketing and Product Management functions
  • Ability to represent Elsevier in external industry and customer forums
  • Bachelor's degree with MBA preferred.
