The role of the Researcher Products group at Elsevier is to help academic researchers be more successful in discovering and sharing new knowledge, and to progress their careers. We are developing advanced analytic products that use proprietary and public data to solve complex problems for the world’s smartest users. In doing so, we want to build a better information system to support researchers in solving humanity’s most important problems, that is transparent, interoperable and puts the researcher in control. 



We are looking for a VP of Product who can help to develop our strategy to serve researchers better, and to lead the execution of the strategy by building and iterating world-class software products. The successful candidate will lead product development for several key researcher use cases including discovering, showcasing and organising knowledge. The VP will have a deep understanding of user needs, and be able to combine this with strong technical skills, including working with data scientists, product managers, designers and engineers, to come up with solutions that meet researcher needs. His/her direct reports will include up to 8 product managers / product directors, each of whom works cross-functionally with co-located engineering squads and product designers. The successful candidate will be accountable for prioritising across these squads to deliver our overall company goals, and will drive high standards of execution in agile product development.




The successful candidate will have

Experience in leading a medium sized product group, likely consisting of several or more product squads operating in an agile manner

A strong focus on developing product solutions based on data and analytics, including machine learning

Coached and developed great product managers, helping their team to build their careers

A track record of developing strategy in a complex environment

Proven results of setting and delivering against product KPIs

Worked cross-functionally with leaders of technology and design teams, in matrix structures

Strong communication skills, with the ability to get buy-in from board-level stakeholders 



Bachelors or Masters degree in a technical subject
Minimum of 15 years’ experience in software product management and related functions, in any industry sector
Ownership of a sizeable product suite with related strategy and budget responsibilities
Interest in scholarly information and academic research a plus
Fluent to native speaker level in English
