VP, Clinical Analytics

Clinical Solutions leads the industry in oncology decision support, providing pathways to guide treatment selection based upon the latest clinical evidence and helping oncologists to deliver precision cancer care. Building upon our success in oncology, our team is developing next-generation advanced clinical decision support and integrated workflow solutions, leveraging our preeminent evidence-based content as a foundation. In addition, we are establishing analytics and research capabilities to demonstrate the impact of our solutions and enable our customers to deliver better care at lower costs. 


The VP, Clinical Analytics will play a central role for establishing and driving the Clinical Analytics function as part of the Health Informatics team at Elsevier, reporting to the Chief Informatics Officer. This position will be responsible for designing and developing analytics solutions that complement our current Advanced Clinical Decision Support solutions to answer our health system customers’ most pressing clinical and operational questions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and lead Clinical Analytics functional area as part of the Healthcare Informatics team in Clinical Solutions.
  • Build highly skilled clinical analytics team with an initial focus in oncology.
  • Partner with multidisciplinary teams including commercial, product, technology and precision medicine teams to define and develop analytics products and solutions in oncology and other service lines.
  • Oversee clinical data pipeline, including delivery of statistically deidentified data for research and analytics.
  • Guide development of analytics capabilities and tools, such as predictive models and machine learning algorithms.
  • Design and lead research to demonstrate the impact of Elsevier solutions on care delivery, including clinical outcomes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with health system customers to identify opportunities for Elsevier to help solve problems through analytics.
  • Define and execute data acquisition strategy to facilitate advanced analytics.
  • Establish and lead customer collaborations to develop analytics product offerings.
  • Establish and lead clinical data governance function.
  • Participate in a broad range of analytics initiatives across Elsevier data governance and business intelligence.
  • Represent Elsevier as a thought leader in the healthcare analytics community.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a healthcare-related field (e.g. MD, MS, PhD, etc.).
  • At least 10 years of experience in healthcare and analytics.
  • Passion and enthusiasm for improving the quality and cost efficiency of patient care across the U.S. and globally.
  • Experience building and managing a highly skilled analytics team and providing leadership in complex business environments.
  • Experience answering clinical outcomes, cost of care, and value-based payment questions in oncology and other service lines.
  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare, health insurance, health care research, and advanced analytic methods including predictive and prescriptive modeling.
  • Extensive experience combining and utilizing large and complex datasets from multiple sources including electronic health record, charge capture, claims, and PROs. 
  • Experience in analytics for quality measurement and reporting, including CMS Healthcare Quality Programs.
  • Subject matter expert in analytics methodologies and best practices, including outcomes measurement and study design.
  • Experience applying artificial intelligence in analytics and data abstraction, including using NLP to structure unstructured data. 
  • Ability to identify, understand, and quantify existing and new addressable market opportunities. Identify specific new products and features for competitive differentiation.
  • Proven achievement in putting data into practice and successfully engaging customers and business partners to drive change.
  • Customer focused with a commitment to exceeding customer expectations.
  • Forward-thinking and creative, knowledgeable of industry trends with a desire to remain educated on industry direction and emerging technologies.
  • Experience interfacing with senior executives and clinical leadership to communicate how analytics can drive outcome improvement and cost reduction.
  • Ability to communicate complex analytical concepts to a broad range of stakeholders and customers with experience in formal presentations, small group discussion, and one-on-one interactions.
  • Ability to travel 20-25% of the time.
