Trends Editor in Genetics
Since 1985, Trends in Genetics has been a
“must read” journal for geneticists, a source for concise, accessible articles on a range of
topics from developmental biology to evolution. As the field has changed,
though, so too has the scope of the journal, which now encompasses new areas,
such as genomics, epigenetics, and computational genetics, while continuing to
cover traditional subjects like transcriptional regulation, population
genetics, and chromosome biology. As the full-time Editor of Trends in Genetics,
you will be responsible for acquiring and developing the very best commentary,
correspondence and review articles in this fast-moving and broadly important
area.
By growing and
leveraging your network of contacts in academia and industry, and acquiring new
knowledge from reading the latest research and attending leading conferences,
you will ensure that Trends in Genetics maintains the
leading position it has held for over 35 years.
You will guide the direction of the journal by adapting its scope,
article types, and communication style to meet the evolving needs of your
research community.
This is an opportunity to be
at the forefront of scientific communication at a time when the global research
community is overwhelmed by the sheer volume of research being published every
day. An exciting challenge of your job
will be to explore new ways to use articles published in the journal and
innovative technology to give the global research community answers to key
questions across genetics.
Your responsibilities
Keep abreast
of the field; identify key authors and research topics where a review or
short overview will benefit the research community.
Commission
and manage a pipeline of high-quality reviews, commentaries, forums, and
other types of articles across the breadth of the field.
Manage the
peer review and editorial process.
Edit
manuscripts for scientific message.
Build
strong relationships in
the wider scientific community.
Devise and
execute strategy for your journal.
Collaborate with
colleagues in other departments and units across the organization.
What you should bring
PhD in the life sciences, preferably in Genetics,
Biochemistry, Molecular/Cellular Biology or a related discipline. Post-doctoral
training is an advantage.
Passion for science and scientific communication.
Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational
skills.
Ability to work independently, autonomously, and
proactively.
A can-do attitude, strategic mindset, and solution
orientation.
