This role will report to the Director of Strategic Pricing for Clinical Solutions.  Working with the Director of Strategic Pricing, the VP of Strategy for Clinical Solutions, and the Strategy and Clinical Solutions leadership teams, this position will support strategy development, oversee project management activities and help drive operational improvements.  As a key member of the Strategy team, the individual will be exposed to all areas of strategy development and execution and will work across all levels of the organization to advance initiatives across both corporate and pricing strategy. 


Key responsibilities will be divided across pricing and corporate strategy:


Pricing Strategy Responsibilities

·         Assist in the development of pricing strategies for new products, including the analysis of qualitative and quantitative survey, financial, and market data and the communication of recommendations to management

  • Maintain and improve price schedules and discounting policies for existing solutions and products, leveraging internal data, feedback from sales teams, and assessment of competitive dynamics

·         Lead efforts to improve our data capture and analysis capabilities, and play a major role in the adoption of next-generation Configure, Price, Quote (CPQ) solutions

·         Lead price negotiations on specific individual sales opportunities

  • Collaborate with commercial strategy, marketing, sales, and finance on pricing and discounting initiatives
  • Support continuous improvement of pricing operations and processes


Corporate Strategy Responsibilities

·         Assist in the development of strategy and operating plans for the Clinical Solutions business

·         Undertake analysis / modelling work to drive insight into market trends and competitive positioning

·         Support initiatives to roll out the Elsevier and Clinical Solutions strategy to business unit teams

·         Assist in the identification and analysis of potential targets for acquisition to accelerate growth

·         Support implementation of key strategic initiatives, improving group’s ability to deliver on strategic priorities and improving operational effectiveness

·         Manage multiple projects across business units by setting project plans, tracking progress against established timelines and coordinating input from multiple    stakeholders

·         Drive alignment and collaboration between business units by proactively identifying areas of overlap

·         Support development of Sales strategy and operating plans, in collaboration with Sales Leadership


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA preferred
  • Preference to candidates with experience at a major strategy consulting firm, including corporate and pricing strategy project work

·         Ability to work in a complex and matrixed environment, deliver quickly and adapt to changing demands

  • Ability to balance several initiatives simultaneously and meet project timelines
  • Displays evidence of clear strategic thinking, able to balance short-term activities with long-term vision
  • Ability to work through ambiguity and develop clear plans
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to cultivate strong collaborative working relationships and contacts across multiple company functions
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization, including executive leadership
  • Proven ability to influence others, drive meaningful change results and develop/execute formal change management programs
  • Strong MS PowerPoint, Excel, Word proficiency required

·         Project management experience leading large cross functional projects preferred

  • Experience in primary customer research preferred
  • Healthcare industry experience a plus
  • Experience working with SalesForce preferred
  • Data analysis/visualization tool proficiency (SQL, R, Tableau, etc.) preferred
