Sr UX Designer - Authoring Platforms

Elsevier’s Clinical Solutions Platform Product Group is currently seeking a Senior UX Designer to help shape the future of our authoring products. 

The Elsevier Platform Product group supports the customer-facing product teams by delivering standardized practices that accelerate development, reduce time-to-market and support industry-leading healthcare products. As a Senior UX Designer, you will lead the design strategy for our Authoring Platform products, represent UX to the business and lead the design and delivery of product solutions. 


Your key responsibilities will include:

User Focus: 

  • Advocate for users’ needs with the cross functional team. Inspire your squad to want to understand our users and meet their needs.
  • Gather, evaluate and have an informed understanding of customer use cases and pain points through frequent contact with our users.
  • Initiate and drive user research opportunities to build a deeper understanding of our users’ needs and validate design concepts.

Creative Problem Solving 

  • Develop a collaborative environment to ensure that the best ideas from customers, colleagues, internal and external stakeholders are recognized.
  • Challenge the status-quo with confidence and demonstrate the energy and vision to see innovative ideas to fruition.
  • Iterate and test solution(s), that balance user needs and business goals, to validate that they solve the identified problem.
  • Collect and analyze feedback to recommend solutions.
  • Present design and research learnings that will guide future projects.
  • Share and grow the team’s design thinking and problem solving skills to empower them to identify and solve user problems. 

Product Design 

  • Ensure users are considered at every phase of the product development process; create research documentation and analysis outputs as needed.
  • Develop and drive a user-centered design vision; support a product strategy based in strategic user and market research.
  • Define overall product user experiences, including UI, Interaction Design and information architecture.
  • Make proactive use of user insights to set design principles and oversee adoption and use of style guides by the cross-functional team.
  • Actively mentor and informally lead cross-functional teams through a User-Centered design process. 

Data Informed Analysis & Testing 

  • Understand and draw insights from data derived from analytics packages, customer insights and other sources to build context for user research initiatives.
  • Identify gaps in existing data and work with business to fill them.
  • Define data-informed UX testing and user research strategies with measurable KPI's.
  • Ensure all design solutions are tested and (in)validated with users, collaborating with other functions as needed.
  • Iteratively design and enhance design solutions based on user testing and data analysis.
  • Understand the nuances of research in different contexts (remote / in person / unmoderated /moderated). 

Technical Skills 

  • Use design and prototyping software to expert level (e.g. Adobe, Axure, Sketch, InVision).
  • Have an excellent knowledge of a modern product tech stack.
  • Produce design solutions across all relevant platforms.
  • Demonstrate ongoing learning and mentor more junior designers in technical skills.
