Senior Software Engineer

The Senior Software Engineer position serves as a senior team member within a team of Software Engineers. The team is responsible for the ongoing support and development of Operations Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse solutions. The Senior Software Engineer position performs complex research, design, and software development assignments, and provides direct input to project plans, schedules, and methodology in the development of cross-functional software products. This position performs software design, mentors more-junior members of the team; and talks to users/customers and translates their requests into solutions.


Key Result Area:

Deliver own high-quality software development work (70%)

          Work closely with different business and technology units to understand their data

 warehousing and reporting needs

          Create data warehouses, database designs and implementations

          Perform test driven development (TDD) within the Agile software development process

          Have a good understanding of ETL processes for data loading into data warehouses

          Develop and maintain reports to the business

Assist the wider team to meet and exceed goals (30%)

             Act as a lead and mentor for other developers within team business intelligence capabilities

             Contribute to achieving continuous improvement within the standards and processes for ongoing development

             Be a confident, pro-active technology and data evangelist

Functional and Technical competencies:

          Knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).

          Strong understanding of normalized and dimensional data modeling principles. With especially in-depth knowledge of Data Warehousing principles and practice

          Strong proficiency with advanced SQL including optimization techniques (other data manipulation languages advantageous)

          Strong knowledge of Redshift or Oracle databases and preferably one or more other data storage subsystems as well.

          Expertise in development languages including Pl/SQL – Java, Unix, Python, XML and others also desirable

          Strong knowledge of Business Intelligence tools – Oracle Business Intelligence and Tableau in particular

          Ability to partner and lead internal and external technology resources in solving complex business needs.

          Ability to design and work with complex data models.

          Strong knowledge in industry best practices in development.

          Strong problem-solving experience identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary to effectively troubleshoot/diagnose complex project issues; prior success extracting/translating findings into alternatives/solutions; and identifying risks/impacts and schedule adjustments to facilitate management decision-making.

          Strong communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills. Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills applicable to a wide audience including senior management, customers, etc., including diction/terminology and presenting information in a concise and effective manner to clients, management, and various departments using assorted communication mediums.


Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering

• BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required; advanced degree   preferred; relevant certifications added advantage
