The LexisNexis patent collection is one of the largest in the world (125+ million). It is rapidly growing with 6+ million updates a week from the patent offices of over 100 countries.  A high speed and fault tolerant process keeps our collection current. Our patent content includes full text and images that we enhance with entities, classifications, translations and linkages to corporate and scientific collections. 


The role

We are looking for a passionate Solution Engineer for our Intellectual Property DataDirect (IPDD) bulk data and online data product. The IPDD product is providing access to our fast-growing patent collection via an API, both for bulk delivery as well as online retrieval. You will acquire the necessary knowledge to understand and monitor the data flow from the data source to the end user. 


Your main responsibility will be maintaining IPDD in close relationship with the product manager, customer support, and all departments associated with the creation and delivery of the data. This requires good communication skills, a customer focused attitude, curiosity and the understanding for delivering value. You will be troubleshooting on customer issues, provide technical assistance for new and existing users, support the sales team in defining the scope of delivery and maintain the technical documentation. You appreciate customer feedback and use it to challenge the status quo and think outside existing patterns to introduce improvements. The successful candidate takes ownership, is comfortable working with structured data and appreciates an international environment.



  • Contribute to development projects in a professional and independent way

  • Maintain and troubleshoot on existing functionality while being conscious about the impact

  • Monitor the effectiveness and sustainability of the solution and the capacity needed to support our users

  • Assure quality of data and processes

  • Actively participate in maintenance and developing new features

  • Consult the customer support team with your technical product knowledge

  • Participate in calls with customers to determine the scope of delivery and understand technical requirements

  • Facilitate on-boarding of customers

  • Investigate root-causes and develop sustainable solutions in alignment with different stakeholders

  • Own the technical documentation for IPDD - complete, improve and maintain it.

  • Strong communication (verbal and in writing) skills in English

  • Willingness to learn and develop yourself



  • Bachelor/Master (HBO/WO) level of working and thinking

  • 5+ years’ experience in professional software development

  • 5+ years’ experience with developing in C# and good working knowledge of Microsoft SQL server

  • Good working knowledge of .NET framework, especially WCF

  • Familiarity with architecture styles/APIs (REST, SOAP)

  • Familiar with best practices like SOLID, TDD, CI/CD, unit testing and end2end testing



  • Knowledge of Intellectual Property Data

  • Good knowledge of Application Lifecycle Management

  • Experience of working with structured data (incl XML, JSON)

  • Used to work in an international team & stakeholders

  • Experienced in data manipulation & data transformation

  • Familiar working with Agile methodology, using JIRA
