LexisNexis is looking for a Senior User Researcher to join the Global Product team. The Senior User Researcher is a key figure in business units and product teams, working to generate the feedback and insight needed to understand customers and deliver what they need. They generate new and useful user insights and translate these into features and actions that allow products to be improved.


User researchers are highly experienced in a range of methodologies that reveal actionable customer insights. They have excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and the ability to quickly develop recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative evidence. They are confident in explaining user needs to stakeholders whatever their level of seniority, and act as a brave and persuasive advocate for those needs both within product teams and the wider business. They are expert at working with data throughout the UX/design continuum, from the requirements gathering stage through to design and release to market.


As the Senior User Researcher your key roles and responsibilities will include:

Customer (or User) Focus 

  • Gathers, evaluates and has a solid understanding of customer use cases. Maintains close links with UX Designers, ensuring that user feedback and testing are fed into the design process. 
  • Aligns/coaches the team to ensure customer needs are met. 
  • Shares research findings with the organisation. 
  • Understands competitors and regulatory environment. 
  • Segments markets and understands needs of those sub-segments in greater detail.


Creative Problem Solving 

  • Identifies if we are addressing the right problem with a thorough analysis of the brief. 
  • Presents research learnings to stakeholders to guide future projects.
  • Collaboratively analyses the results of research to recommend solutions.
  • Independently identifies different research solutions. 
  • Works with designers to iterate and test solution. 
  • Considers the problem from a number of angles. 
  • Practices and facilitates reflection as part of the research process.


Product Design 

  • Leads the User-centred research process, mentoring juniors where needed. 
  • Applies a number of UX Research techniques. 
  • Creates research documentation and analysis outputs. 
  • Works with UX Designer to define structure and layout of the product. Works with Visual Designer to define the visual identity of products.


Data Driven Analysis & Testing 

  • Regularly tests design work with users in partnership with UX Design team. 
  • Proactively uses data to establish key metrics for projects. 
  • Iterates research methods based on testing and data analysis. 
  • Summarises data from analytics packages, customer insight or other sources to understand context of research work. 
  • Uses data to inform testing future strategy. 
  • Identifies gaps where data is needed and works with business to fill them.


Technical Skills 

  • Uses relevant tools for research analysis. 
  • Understands the nuances of researching in different contexts (remote / in person / unmoderated /moderated). 
  • Has an excellent knowledge of the tech stack of the organisation. 
  • Mentors junior researchers in technical skills. 
  • Uses research software (e.g. Qualtics, Lookback, Usertesting.com) to expert level. 
  • Builds good working relationships with tech teams.

Basic Qualifications:



  • MSc or MA in Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, or Interaction Design preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years professional experience in user research covering digital interactive and high-volume, high traffic, consumer-facing web sites, mobile sites, IOS and Android applications.
  • Expert level experience with product discovery methodologies, formative usability testing and ad-hoc methods for testing usability and value of products and/or features in a fast-paced iterative environment, prior to development.
  • Expert level knowledge of human factors, cognitive processes, user-centered design processes, interaction design guidelines, usability methodologies, industry standards and trends, both formal and informal usability testing methods, remote (moderated) usability testing, as well as a deep understanding of web, mobile and device specific considerations.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, decision-making and leadership skills are essential.
  • Ability to communicate complex topics clearly both in person and in writing.
  • Experience with user interface requirements documentation and workflow diagramming.
  • Ability to think creatively and to champion innovative design solutions.
  • Self-starter who can work and communicate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams with minimal direction.
  • General willingness to do what it takes to create great products and delighted users!
  • Not fazed by aggressive project timelines.
  • Highly proactive in suggesting research opportunities, improving team processes and evangelizing findings.
  • Qualitative research essential, quantitative research experience desirable.


  • Consulting experience is a plus.
  • Ability to travel when required.
  • Familiarity with Axure.
  • Experience of Userzoom and/or equivalent technologies.
  • Knowledge of Agile as a development methodology.
  • Knowledge of text heavy/content rich/B2B spaces e.g. publishing or big data and rich ways to present data is desirable but not essential.
