We’re building an intelligent shareable data repository for scientific data and need more help.  If you’re a passionate, focused and quality obsessed QA who isn’t afraid of making decisions quickly, testing functionality you’ve not tested before, untangling product requirements and hitting sprint commitments we want to hear from you.  In return we offer the opportunity to work on a meaningful product application running in an AWS microservice environment on web and web mobile platforms.

       

More about the role: 

We’re looking for a Senior QA Engineer to join the Mendeley Data team.  We expect you to think on your feet and be able to come up with practical, simple solutions to complex problems.  You will have a deep knowledge in areas related to QA Engineering; you should also be knowledgeable in all things related to creating a quality user centered product.  As a Senior QA Engineer, you will be part of shaping science’s next steps.


 

  • You’ll work in Mendeley Data, a mixed discipline scrum team of individuals centred around a common goal — to make sharing versioned research data easy, enjoyable and empowering.
  • You will be owning the quality of a user-centered website which adheres to standards and is progressively enhanced to offer a rich experience for capable browsers, whilst offering a basic experience for all browsers.
  • Testing a rich Javascript, HTML & CSS web app.
  • Testing RESTful APIs to ensure both internal and external clients are getting the correct response.
  • Help define and monitor technical and business functional metrics in production and staging.
  • Spotting the early indications of performance or other quality issues before they occur.
  • Growing the automation suite around the user exposed functionality and also the API layer.
  • Working in 2 week sprints with daily standups, grooming, planning and retros, you’ll take your turn to run sprint demos for stakeholders.
  • Participate in once a month hackathons, and weekly brown bag sessions.
  • You’ll work face to face occasionally with university stakeholders on site.
  • You’ll be working with a product manager, a business analyst and UI designer to understand exactly the definition of done for stories, as well as the overall vision of the product.

You should bring:

  • Demonstrable experience as a Quality Test Engineer.
  • Experience defining the test cases to prove a user story works.
  • Experience testing Web Front End written in HTML 5, CSS, Javascript and Node.
  • Experience testing both web and desktop sites.
  • Testing tools such as Cucumber, Selenium, Appium (or similar).
  • Experience in a Continuous Integration environment.
  • Strong understanding of QA methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of process improvement.
  • Knowledge of the Scrum Agile software development process.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong research skills (tools/root cause analysis).
  • Exhibits innovative approaches to process improvement.
  • Strong written and oral communication.
  • Administration of testing tools/environments.
