Job Description

Position Summary


We are looking for an experienced Senior Product Consultant to join the RELX Product Analytics team.  The Product consultant will be an internal consultant who uses his/her knowledge of product management and skills in project management, problem solving, communication and change management to help product managers across RELX incorporate data-driven techniques into their day-to-day activities.


The Senior Product Consultant will act as a catalyst and evangelist to share new ideas, new ways of working and external and internal best practices. This will be done via specific projects, pilot testing and workshops with the intent to demonstrate the value and potential to RELX businesses.

The Team

The RELX Product Analytics team’s mission is to enable and support data-driven product decisions across RELX businesses.  We work directly with senior business leadership and product development teams across RELX businesses (including LexisNexis, Elsevier, Reed Exhibitions, Accuity, Cirium, and others) in targeted projects aimed at demonstrating and accelerating the culture of data-driven decisions.

The Role

The Senior Product Consultant is a member of a new team of product and analytics experts led by a Director of Product, Analytics, who reports to the RELX VP of Innovation.  The Senior Product consultant will be based in our NYC, Philadelphia, Raleigh or Atlanta office and will report to the RELX Director of Product, Analytics, a senior member of the Innovation team. The role will require occasional travel (~25%) to our various global offices for project meetings and workshops.


The Senior Product Consultant will:

  • Support product analytics projects that deliver transformational impact for the RELX businesses, with contributions including:
  • Delivering insights that inform future product development investment
  • Being passionate about investigating and interrogating data to find key insights and ideas that can change the product development roadmap
  • Collaborating with business leaders and product managers to develop actionable approaches that will deliver measurable results
  • Preparing persuasive & compelling presentations to clearly communicate the case for change
    • Readying the business to implement agreed upon approaches
  • Build innovative product analytics capabilities across the RELX businesses by:
  • Developing workshops, webinars, presentations and training sessions
  • Providing informal, ad-hoc strategic support to colleagues
  • Proactively and continuously gathering and sharing intelligence on industry trends
Ideal Candidate Profile

  1. Product Skills
    • Has brought new product features to market
    • Identifies the most important data to consider and sets KPIs, priorities and dashboards.
    • Experienced at A/B testing tools and using testing to improve experience and drive success
    • Is comfortable taking an analytical, data-driven approach for situations where rigorous data sets are not available
    • Manages projects without direct supervision, involving manager or other senior leaders only when appropriate.
  1. Technical Skills
    • Experienced in a product development atmosphere, interacting with product managers, developers, UX and data scientists.
    • Speaks knowledgably with tech and data counterparts about development approaches in consideration.
    • Understands technology stacks at a high level
    • Understand how metrics capture works and their capabilities
    • Learns about new technologies to support new product development efforts.
    • Is comfortable analyzing data using multiple software packages (e.g. Excel, Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, etc).

  • Experience working with broad stakeholder groups
    • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions, recommendations, and drive actions

Qualifications and Experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics Business, Finance, Economics – Technical and post-graduate specialist study is preferred
  • Experience leading product teams and launching products/features to customers using data-driven decisions.
  • Proven experience in Product Management roles, ideally gained in a blend of consulting and large corporate environments where innovative analytical approaches were used for product development decision-making
