Job Description

Position Summary


We are looking for an experienced Senior Analyst to join the RELX Product Analytics team.  The Senior Analyst will be an internal consultant who uses his/her knowledge of analytics and skills in problem solving and communication to help businesses across RELX incorporate data-driven techniques into their day-to-day activities.


The Analyst will act as a catalyst and evangelist to share new ideas, new ways of working and external and internal best practices. This will be done via specific projects, proof-of-concepts and workshops with the intent to demonstrate the value and potential to RELX businesses.


The Team


The RELX Product Analytics team’s mission is to enable and support data-driven product decisions across RELX Businesses.  We work directly with senior business leadership and product development teams across RELX businesses (LexisNexis, Elsevier, Reed Business International and Reed Exhibitions) in targeted projects aimed at demonstrating and accelerating the culture of data-driven decisions.


The Role


The Senior Analyst is a member of a new team of product and analytics experts led by the Director of Product, Analytics, who reports to the RELX VP of Innovation.  The Senior Analyst will be based in the NYC office and will report to RELX’s Director of Product, Analytics, a senior member of the Innovation team.  The role will require occasional travel (~25%) to our various global offices for project meetings and workshops.

The Senior Analyst will:
  • Support product analytics projects that aid in data-driven product decisions for the RELX businesses with limited supervision, including:
  • Delivering insights that inform future product development investment
  • Demonstrating mastery of own work by clearly and concisely articulating and defending analysis and ideas
  • Being passionate about investigating and interrogating data to find key insights and ideas that can change the product development roadmap
  • Deep diving into data infrastructure to identify issues and propose solutions
  • Collaborating with business leaders, product managers, analysts and data scientists and to develop actionable approaches that will deliver measurable results
  • Preparing persuasive & compelling presentations to clearly communicate the case for change
    • Readying the business to implement agreed upon approaches
  • Build innovative product analytics capabilities across the RELX businesses by:
  • Deep diving into product data to discover new insights.
  • Creating proof-of-concept and MVP data solutions to demonstrate the value of different analytics approaches.
  • Contributes to defining the work to be done and completes work on time and to a high standard with minimal oversight
  • Develops improved processes to streamline work and shares those ideas and innovation with team members.
  • Developing workshops, webinars, presentations and training sessions
  • Providing informal, ad-hoc strategic support to colleagues
  • Proactively and continuously gathering and sharing intelligence on industry trends
Ideal Candidate Profile


  1. Customer Focus – we build products for our customers.  The ideal product manager is relentlessly customer focused, understands the customer and uses that understanding to create value through all aspects of the product.
  1. Technical Skills
  • Experienced in advanced analytics techniques (e.g. linear / logistic regression, clustering, factor analysis) and in the use of one or more web analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Pendo, etc.)
  • Experienced in the use of SQL for data manipulation, across a variety of database environments (e.g. Teradata, SQL Server, MySQL)
  • Experienced user of statistical software packages
  • Data visualisation skills using Tableau/Looker with integration experience
  • Business Intelligence tool experience (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, Looker, etc)
  • Experienced in a product development atmosphere, interacting with product managers, developers, UX and data scientists.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills

Qualifications and Experiences
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field e.g. Business, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics – Post graduate specialist study is preferred
  • Experience with product development teams
  • Data visualisation skills (ex: Tableau, Looker with integration experience
  • Experience of writing to SQL databases and queries for reporting using SSRS
  • Experience writing and adapting queries using PostgreSql (8.02+) from AWS Redshift
  • Proven experience in Analytics and/or Management Consulting roles, ideally gained in a blend of consulting and large corporate environments where innovative analytical approaches were used for Product Development decision making
