The M&A Finance team is part of the core cross-functional team that supports R&BA’s M&A activity led by the Strategy team from financial modeling, due diligence to deal execution and integration. This role is a high visibility role that requires the ability to lead several process work streams through financial modeling, due diligence, deal closing, integration planning, execution, and problem solving. The ability to work collaboratively with work stream leads and subject matter experts to arrive at risk-based approaches related to tactical execution steps is required.

Job Responsibilities

1.     Analyze potential acquisition and investment candidates, perform complex financial modeling, and support the negotiation and of selected high risk transactions. Engage with business intermediaries, sellers, internal business owners, key stakeholders and other support personnel.

2.     Assist M&A Manager in designing and implementing consistent complex financial models and standards for acquisition activities.

3.     Research industry participants and competitive landscape to develop actionable awareness of potential acquisition and investment candidates and serve as an advisor within one or more of the Company’s business lines

4.     Evaluate target companies for financial, operational and strategic fit and understands and evaluates the impact of the potential transaction on business strategy.

5.     Execute all aspects of strategic acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and strategic investments from inception through due diligence, valuation, closing and integration, and support internal approval and communication processes for completion of a transaction.

6.     Monitoring the performance of acquisitions and investments to ensure that business and economic standards are being achieved

7.     Compiling and assessing deal return on investment; advising senior management on deal financial risks and return; and making final financial recommendations in a clear and confident manner.

8.     Prepare final presentations on deal risk, returns and final recommendations to management for review and consideration.

9.     Work with cross-functional teams to ensure timely completion of valuations, diligence and integration planning.

10.   Assist RELX corporate finance team in preparing market presentation materials for divestiture deals.


An ideal candidate for this role would possess the following skills/experience:

3.     Ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously

4.     Mindset to proactively engage and evaluate (and drive resolution of) potential conflicts between various Finance and non-Finance functions

5.     Analytical mindset that focuses on risk evaluation and mitigation

6.     Ability to lead and drive execution of plans

7.     Comfort with navigating complex decision points in order to ensure stakeholder buy-in

8.     Comfort with problem solving and creative solutions

9.     Ability to work through ambiguity, and navigate business ideas with limited information.

10.   Proven intellectual curiosity and fast learning ability

11.   Critical thinking

12.   Proven analytical skills and attention to details



1. 4-6 years prior experience of substantial diverse financial analysis and accounting
2. Bachelor's degree in business, finance or related subject area

3. MBA or certification preferred, i.e. CMA, CFA or CPA

4. M&A experience preferred, but not required
5. Advanced computer skills including Excel, Essbase, PeopleSoft and MBS
6. Strong communication and presentation skills
7. Analytical Thinking, inclusive of problem assessment and recommendation
8. Advanced Analysis Problem Assessment                                          

9. Strong Conceptual Thinking /Decision Making (Problem Solving) 

10. Ability to complete financial analysis without direction
