Senior Editor, Cell Reports Medicine

We are seeking a talented scientist, physician scientist or clinician to join the editorial team of Cell Reports Medicine, a new high quality, Open Access Cell Press journal. Cell Reports Medicine will focus on translational and clinical biomedical sciences that impact how we think about human health and medicine. The Senior Editor will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief in the impending launch of Cell Reports Medicine and help shape the journal thereafter. 


We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in any biomedical field. Previous editorial experience is an advantage but is not required. We are open to considering candidates at junior and senior levels. 



Key responsibilities will include:

- Assessing submitted research papers and making editorial recommendations.

- Overseeing the peer review process for direct submissions and transferred contributions.

- Recruiting exciting research.

- Commissioning Review articles.

- Commissioning and creating content for the journal homepage, blog and social media outlets.

- Traveling to scientific conferences and academic institutes

- Establishing relationships with researchers through outreach to the scientific and clinical communities.

- Working collaboratively with the editorial team and with academic editorial board members.

- Building effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond.

- Collaborating with the journal team to build the journal's visibility and reputation

- Committing to outstanding author service and peer review.

- Organizing scientific conferences and contributing to Cell Press growth and innovation projects.

What we are looking for:

- Broad interest and a desire to learn!

- A PhD or MD in a relevant scientific or clinical discipline.

- A talent for clear communication.

- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.

- Proven strong and global research networks and connections.

- Interest in digital communication and publishing trends.

- Critical thinking and the willingness to learn and absorb new areas of research.

- The ability to work successfully both independently and in a diverse global team.


This is a full-time editorial position. Our preference is for the new editor(s) to be based in our Cell Press office in Cambridge, Massachusetts. However, depending on work permit status, we would be open to having editors based in one of our Elsevier offices in the European Union and UK.
