Works closely with external domain experts, software developers or project managers in the area of taxonomies, database excerption, quality assurance or excerption tools. The Senior Database Content Specialist will safeguard the delivery route and manage the implementation of the work done by external experts from a content point of view.

 

The Senior Database Content Specialist, Life Sciences, will develop, create and adapt thesauri, ontologies and data structures and support database development in the Life Science (medical/biomedical/pharmacological/chemical) domain.

Effective performance in this role will require working closely with product management, technical thesaurus managers, database developers and internal and external experts to build, improve and expand thesauri and databases from the content point of view. Contributing to improvements of existing products or development of new products is part of the job as well.


  • He/she will do in-depth analysis on a content-  and datastructure level, and will communicate in writing those findings. Furthermore the Senior Database Content Specialist will be responsible for quality assurance (QA) in the area of thesauri, automated indexing and manual excerption. Setting-up the corresponding quality assurance procedures as well as improvements of tools for support of QA falls also under his/her responsibility.
  • He/she will also work on concepts for improvement of automated indexing for Elsevier Life Science databases in close cooperation with internal experts. The Senior Database Content Specialist will also have a supportive role in giving form to business requirements.


The job holder works on (structure-) registration criteria, writes technical specifications for production workflows and indexing programs, defines indexing guidelines.


He/she will perform quality assurance of excerpted data indexed by external contractors and write quality check reports, as well as supporting excerptors concerning all questions and problems during data excerption.

As a participant in projects this role will entail setting up workflow procedures, performing (work) sizing and dealing with project issues as they come in. Participation in forums and discussions on the future of taxonomy and database creation and maintenance is another aspect. Job holder will contribute to strategic vision and communicates with others accross business.

• Experience with and knowledge about Life Science databases and information systems
• Working experience with the creation, maintenance and usage of Life Science taxonomies
• Familiar with thesaurus / ontology management systems
• Knowledge of content representation (e.g. relational databases, graph-databases), data structures
• Familiar with QA standards and procedures
• Understanding of automated indexing techniques, text mining, NLP
• Experience with agile development frameworks , e.g. Scrum is a plus
• Project management experience is a plus
