SAS Developer - Diio, a part of FlightGlobal – Reston, Virginia

Our customers (airlines, airports, government agencies, and others) rely on our data-driven web applications to know where people are flying, how they are getting there, how much they are paying, and more.  This is an opportunity to advance a strategy and analysis suite which is actually being used to shape the aviation industry.

Job Purpose:
We seek an experienced SAS programmer with the skills, energy and business acumen to excel in our aviation data processing and analysis unit. Your programs will be critical in many areas, e.g. cleansing raw ticketing, booking, inventory, and schedule data, expanding the data via algorithms and merges, imputing missing data and generating output files usually transmitted to clients or loaded into web-based query tools.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining, improving, and executing existing SAS programs
  • Coding new programs from scratch, for ad hoc reports, custom products, and new production jobs
  • Migrating SAS programs from Windows to Linux
  • Meeting deadlines for new products, features, and enhancements, as well as large historical data deliveries to new customers
  • Interfacing with IATA (International Air Transport Association) regarding new requirements and historical restatements
  • Investigating issues with data quality and answering clients’ questions
  • Identifying opportunities to complement our data processing environment
  • Able to work in Reston, Virginia on most weekdays, with occasional night, weekend, or on-call responsibilities
  • Little travel is likely, but 1-4 weeks per year is possible.
Key Skills Required:
  • Mastery of the SAS data step, null data step, and common base procedures
  • Able to transform, cleanse, impute, and mash up data, and implement algorithms
  • Mastery of reading and writing complex files with varying or nested structures
  • Strong skills in SQL
  • Mastery of macro programming in SAS
  • Passion for data processing, data mining and complex operations
  • Knowledge of advanced SAS programming techniques and efficiencies
  • Familiarity with Linux command line, shell scripting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent English fluency, both spoken and written. You are able to discuss complex technical subjects with clarity and precision
  • Knowledge of R and / or Python for data processing
Additional Skills Strongly Preferred:
  • Knowledge of SAS performance tuning, particularly in a Linux environment
  • Knowledge of Linux chrontab
  • Knowledge of passenger aviation data (ticketing, booking, itinerary data, schedules), US DOT aviation data (DB1B and T-100), QSI
  • Knowledge of airline terminology and airline business metrics
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, particularly Kanban, is helpful
  • Knowledge of GIT source control, particularly from the Linux command line
  • Knowledge of AWS (Amazon Web Services) is potentially useful
  • Experience with regressions, machine learning, AI
Experience Required:
  • 5+ years experience with BASE SAS programming in a business environment, particularly with data processing or in a big data context
  • BS or MS Engineering/Computer Science or in another quantitative field  (mathematics, economics, statistics, etc.) or equivalent experience
  • SAS Base or Advanced Certification preferred
  • Airline data experience is preferred
  • Applicant will take a live SAS coding test based on a situational case study
