TEC001EB Requisition #

Do you want to help build a scientific data sharing app for scientists?

We are building an intelligent shareable data repository for scientific data and need more help.  If you’re a passionate, focused and quality obsessed leader who isn’t afraid of making decisions quickly, testing functionality you’ve not tested before, untangling product requirements and setting strategies for quality that support the wider Elsevier principles we want to hear from you.  In return we offer the opportunity to work on a meaningful product application running in an AWS microservices environment on web and web mobile platforms.

About the Role

We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Quality Engineering Manager with experience of managing and inspiring QE teams across multiple locations.  You will be based in Amsterdam with some travel expected to London (around 20% European travel) and report directly in to the Director of Quality Engineering for Research Technology.

You will be responsible for the local quality engineering strategy (whilst aligning to the wider company strategy), recruiting, resourcing and people management for the Quality Engineers in your area.

About You

  • You are passionate about shipping high quality software to the customer as quickly as possible and make it your business to question everything to achieve that
  • You are passionate about people management and understand that building, growing and retaining great teams starts with a great leader
  • You are confident talking to customers and senior stakeholders and engaging them in the process where necessary
  • You are passionate about efficiency and speed to market and are accustomed to working in agile teams following continuous integration practices
  • You have considerable experience of Behaviour Driven Development and creating automated tests with associated frameworks and tools or managing teams that do
  • You have considerable experience of testing RESTful APis (both automated and exploratory) or managing trams that do
  • You are comfortable working with cloud-based infrastructure using Amazon Web Services
  • You understand the importance of gathering useful metrics around performance and load testing and have experience helping teams to achieve this

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Work in a collaborative, innovative and fun environment with co-workers who are passionate about what they do and how they do it but also respect a healthy work-life balance
  • Work in a mixed discipline scrum team of individuals centred around a common goal — to make sharing versioned research data easy, enjoyable and empowering.
  • Own the quality of a user-centered website which adheres to standards and is progressively enhanced to offer a rich experience for users and ensuring that, as a team, all aspects of quality are continually challenged, reviewed and improved
  • Test a rich JavaScript, HTML & CSS web app with RESTful APIs
  • Help define and monitor technical and business functional metrics
  • Work face to face occasionally with university stakeholders on site
  • Work with the development team and key stakeholders to ensure everything is in place to deliver a quality product to users
  • Put a strategy in place for performance engineering to identify gaps and ensure the team can get an early indication of issues around performance
  • Put a strategy in place for test automation to ensure growth of the automation suite around the user exposed functionality and the API layer
  • Take on line management responsibilities for existing Quality Engineers (Amsterdam & London)

Choosing to work at Elsevier is choosing to use your talents in a professionally challenging environment, where your personal development and technical expertise will be valued and rewarded. You’ll get the balance of working on a truly worthwhile endeavour without sacrificing any career advantages, but actually enjoying greater professional opportunities. It’s about making an intelligent choice.

Elsevier is a global information analytics company that helps institutions and professionals progress science, advance healthcare and improve performance for the benefit of humanity.
