Job Summary

 

The ‘Principle Engineer, Identity Access Management’ position serves as a major contributor within our IAM squad within Elsevier Research Technology.  This position provides input on technical direction, engineering and agile best practices while contributing to the planning, design, and implementation of our authentication & entitlements platform.

 

Key Tasks

  • Work as part of a highly collaborative, cross-functional, agile technology development team to develop & enhance Elsevier’s Identity Access Management solution. 
  • Provide meaningful input to engineering decision-making; help to build consensus within the team around technology choices.
  • Coordinate and work closely with development partners (architecture, operations, QE) to implement engineering solutions.
  • Successfully implement development processes and apply software engineering principles at each stage of the development lifecycle, while contributing to incremental improvement of the team.
  • Work with product owners to clarify technical aspects of user requirements, determine the best path to meet user requirements, and groom stories accordingly.
  • Contribute to a culture of responsibility for software after shipping.
  • Support and mentor more junior team members.

 


Core Java Development experience (Java, J2EE, JDBC, XML, JSP/Servlet, HTML)

  • Detailed understanding of microservices architecture
  • Experience working with high-performance, high-reliability solutions and tools
  • Hands-on experience working with UNIX, Linux, SQL and both RDBMS and NoSQL technologies including Oracle and MongoDB
  • Experience with engineering best practices such as TDD, Pair Programming, Continuous Integration, automated testing and deployment, Scrum, Kanban
  • AWS development and deployment experience, including specific knowledge of messaging using SQS and SNS
  • Working knowledge of security and privacy best practices
  • Experience of large-scale software engineering involving co-ordination across multiple teams and systems
  • Knowledge of Federation technologies a plus (SAML, OAUTH2, OIDC, LDAP, Kerberos) a plus
  • Knowledge of Groovy, Grails, and JPA a plus
