Paralegal—LexisPSL Competition

Main purpose of the role:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a talented individual to join the LexisPSL Competition team and help contribute towards the future development of LexisPSL Competition, a key module within LexisPSL, an online practical guidance and research tools for lawyers.  The main focus of the role will be taking the lead with the maintenance and extension of our merger decisions database and the maintenance of our multi-jurisdictional merger toolkit, two core features of our offering for competition lawyers across the world.


Overview of the products:

LexisPSL Competition’s multi-jurisdictional merger toolkit is a market-leading collection of materials relating to merger control regimes throughout the world, including:

a maintained and up-to-date list of merger control notification thresholds and summary of merger control regimes around the world

a collection of over 120 maintained jurisdictional guides authored by local competition lawyers

the Where to Notify tool, a calculator which carries out multi-jurisdictional merger assessments

a database of recent penalties for merger control infringements.

LexisPSL Competition’s merger decisions database contains many categories of information from published merger decisions – it currently contains decisions from the European Commission, the UK competition authorities and the Republic of Ireland competition authority.


Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Sourcing, managing, analysing and summarising information from published merger decisions from competition authority websites

  • In-depth analysis of transaction information to assess the development of trends and to contribute towards trend reports and other analytical content
  • Future creation of more databases in other areas of competition law
  • Working with the rest of the team to maintain and further develop our multi-jurisdictional merger toolkit
  • Monitoring for developments in relation to merger control rules in all jurisdictions throughout the world and maintaining our content as appropriate
  • Contacting and liaising with local counsel around the world to maintain our merger guides
  • Liaising with internal and external partners and assisting as appropriate with customer queries
  • Assist with the maintenance of other parts of the LexisPSL Competition module
  • General administrative tasks to support the effective running of the team

Key skills:

  • Degree in law or business (or equivalent)

  • An interest in competition law, ideally gained through work experience at a leading law firm or as part of an academic course

  • Confidence in dealing with queries – both from within the team and other areas of the business, as well as external contributors and customers

  • Interest in writing and publishing

Technical skills:

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications; MS Excel experience desirable

  • Excellent command of written English

  • Accurate proofing skills

  • Ability to identify trends and review data

Interpersonal skills:

  • Ability to work alone as well as in a team

  • Be able to see other people’s points of view and take on board feedback

  • Positive attitude and “can-do” approach

Personal skills:

  • Highly motivated and well organised

  • Good time management skills

  • Ability to prioritise a varied workload and co-ordinate work from a number of sources

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to learn quickly and to assimilate complex information

  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet tight publishing deadlines
