We are looking for someone who has a proven passion for serving and understanding customers, the interpersonal skills to help nurture stakeholder relationships and work with crossfunctional teams.


As the Marketing Communications Manager based in China, you will be contributing to the development and implementation of Greater China communication strategies focusing on content acquisition and content promotion -- driving brand awareness of both Elsevier as well as new and established journals across all scientific fields.


You will be part of a global marketing team based in Amsterdam, China, London, New York, Oxford and Philadelphia.  You will be reporting to the Head of Marketing Communications, Physical Sciences who is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.



Key responsibilities include:


     Contributing to the development of a multi‐channel communication strategy informed by market and business trends to drive growth and increase brand awareness

     Monitoring competitor activity in China across scientific disciplines to identify areas for improvement and taking action as appropriate

     Keeping the Senior Management informed of progress & development of all relevant issues

     Contributing to the development of social media profiles and content on WeChat and Weibo to expand the company's digital presence

     In conjunction with marketing team and publishing colleagues, coordination of promotional activities in China via the creation of consistent branding and messaging to communicate both Elsevier’s and our journals’ value proposition to diverse audiences

     Establishing audience segmentation and profile/behavior based marketing, using acquired marketing tools supported by the business

     Creating, managing, and tracking campaigns with the aim of increasing direct submissions to journals as required

     Collaborating with marketing, publishing and colleagues across all departments to identify cross promotion opportunities

     Facilitating relations with external contacts/ scientific world /societies

     Effectively manage planning, forecasting and monitoring against budget, and demonstrating understanding of the Elsevier budgetary cycle


The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Preferably Master’s degree in Marketing or higher

·         Preferably 2 or more years in a (strategic) marketing/communications position

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Mandarin

·         Broad experience of (digital) marketing communications tools and techniques, including social media

·         Strong administrative and organizational skills, with attention to detail

  • Commercial awareness and negotiating skills

·         Preferably knowledge of the publishing industry in China and worldwide

·         Preferably interest in, and understanding of, open access

·         An intermediate level of computer literacy (including MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint etc)

·         Experience working in complex international environments desirable

·         Willingness to travel within China
