The Elsevier Nursing and Health Education division is looking for a Learning Scientist who will be a key member of the Learning Sciences group within the Product Management team charged with accelerating digital transformation of Nursing and Health Education (NHE) from a publisher of textbooks to a digital solutions provider to improve learning outcomes in healthcare education.  


Job Purpose:


The Learning Scientist will play an integral part in a dynamic and growing team that is putting learning sciences research and learner outcomes at the core of NHE products including (1) working with business leaders and teams across NHE business units to ensure that we are developing ways to deeply integrate research and evidence into product design and development, marketing, and sales; (2) gathering and synthesizing learning science research findings; (3) translating the research findings into actionable recommendations, best practices, and frameworks to support product development; (4) supporting the development of partnerships with research institutions; (5) contributing to broader work across multiple initiatives, including supporting efficacy research.                                      

Key Responsibilities:


  • Manage and execute primary (qualitative and quantitative) and secondary research projects, including study design, data collection, and analyses

  • Lead and/or support efficacy/effectiveness research studies with key research partners and drive approach and provide strategic recommendations

  • Formulate research syntheses, pedagogical frameworks, learning methodologies, and product design rationales that address aspects of the learning sciences and their application to NHE products

  • Provide research consultation support and subject matter expertise to a variety of business units

  • Support the VP, Applied Learning Sciences in advancing a research agenda that supports NHE’s mission, vision, and goals

  • Collaborate with marketing teams to support the appropriate and accurate use of learning sciences research in product marketing collateral

  • Contribute to educational and research training programs

  • Write, reviews, and edits technical documents and academic papers

  • Attend and/or present at learning sciences and NHE conferences

Required Skills, Education, and Competencies:

  • Doctoral degree in learning sciences, educational psychology, or a related field Advanced knowledge of instructional strategies, particularly in the area of adult learning Familiarity with nursing and health care education is a plus
  • 5+ years of experience designing, executing, and managing research studies and using the results to drive program/product improvement
  • Expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods, and the ability to leverage both to impact on product design and development
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, tasks, and deadlines concurrently 
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, written, communication skills, including the ability to effectively and concisely summarize and present research findings to diverse groups of stakeholders at various organizational levels
  • Ability to build and foster strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
