TEC000U1 Requisition #

Role purpose:

Elsevier’s Patient Engagement solutions and technology engage, educate and empower patients by giving them quick access to the same evidence-based information you trust, but delivered in interactive and patient-friendly ways. This turns patients into active participants in their healthcare, not only while they’re with their care team but, more importantly, at home where most of their care will take place.

Reporting to the Director of Software Engineering, we now require a talented, ‘hands-on’ Lead Software Engineer to lead and run mixed (technical, design, testing, business etc.) development squad of 3-5 people in this innovative environment. We expect the successful candidate to spend 50% of their time close to the technology, coding and developing software.

As a Lead Software Engineer, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with several platform teams, and will focus on integrating all components of the platform to facilitate effective communications with all key systems utilizing the squad model to support new feature development/product delivery and quality. Our squads enjoy full autonomy regarding how they go about delivering against long and short term goals, helping to ensure alignment and quality.

This is a high profile role within Elsevier, and  the successful applicant’s contribution will ultimately be transformative to the business.

Preferred experience and technology requirements:

Must haves:

  • Recent career history operating as a Senior Software Engineer or similar to show evidence of at least 50% hands on developing web service applications
  • Strong hands-on Agile web application development & client/server development experience (7+ years) to include experience across languages and projects with experience in JavaScript (React or Angular) and Node.js in particular, and Spring Java preferred
  • Experience of successful project/product completion and delivery (ideally involving simultaneous projects)
  • Demonstrable experience of production products, SDLC, REST (and other API) development architecture.

Nice to haves:

  • A background in healthcare technology and systems integration is a plus
  • Experience developing containerized microservices
  • Open source or community experience is a plus
