LexisNexis is a leading provider of information to the legal profession. We publish a range of well-regarded titles in both print and online formats which provide authoritative research and practical guidance resources to practitioners. Following the acquisition of Jordan Publishing, we have added several market-leading family law titles to our portfolio, including The Family Court Practice.

We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for a Journals and Awards Manager to play a key role in the continued success of our family law programme. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery and development of a range of journals, including Family Law, Child and Family Law Quarterly and Butterworths Journal of International Banking and Financial Law, the leading family law website (www.familylaw.co.uk), as well as leading the editorial elements of the prestigious annual Family Law Awards.

The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of the editorial processes involved in journal publication, proven experience with online publishing and social media and be a self-motivated, enthusiastic, organised and commercially aware individual with a strong interest in family law.

Purpose of the role:

  • Ensuring that a portfolio of leading journal titles is published to schedule and budget ensuring that the company maintains its reputation for producing authoritative content to a high standard.

  • Maintaining a constant stream of quality new content to www.familylaw.co.uk and associated social media channels, in line with the agreed editorial policy.

  • Development of the print and online portfolio, as set out in the development plan, to maximise its commercial potential. 

  • Ensuring the delivery of a high quality and commercially successful awards event.


Key responsibilities:

  • Delivering assigned titles and associated online content to meet agreed schedule, budget and quality targets.

  • Managing the editorial process required to prepare journals and online content using a mixture of outsourced suppliers/freelancers, internal staff and hands-on copy editing as needed.

  • Assuming responsibility for all editorial content on www.familylaw.co.uk and managing related social media accounts and the weekly e-newsletter.

  • Monitoring quality and usage of journals and website.

  • Managing editorial costs budget for journals and ensuring that external editor and supplier payments are processed efficiently.

  • Taking ownership of the development plan for the family law portfolio and delivering its objectives.

  • Taking ownership of the commercial performance of the annual Family Law Awards and making recommendations for the future structure and format of the event.

  • Liaising with internal staff to ensure that the awards event is effectively promoted and that the volume of entrants and income from sponsorship and table sales are maximized.

  • Recruiting and liaising with the judging panel throughout the process of shortlisting entrants and selecting winners in each awards category.

  • Writing copy associated with the awards event and attending on the night.

Skills required:


  • A strong interest in the practice of law generally and family law in particular.

  • A sound knowledge of legal publishing processes and the editorial processes required to prepare journals for publication.

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with external editorial teams and colleagues within the business.

  • Strong commercial focus with an appreciation of the principles of budget management, the importance of managing costs and a willingness to explore new commercial opportunities.

  • Self-confident and credible, able to establish a rapport with leading members of the profession and win their trust and confidence.

  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative.

  • Flexible approach and willingness to go the extra mile to achieve deadlines and revenue targets.

  • Ability to plan work and prioritise and manage multiple projects under time pressure.

  • An ability and willingness to work alongside different teams to achieve results.
