Reed Tech, a LexisNexis Company (a subsidiary of RELX) has a Help Desk Technician opening in the Alexandria, VA office. The Help Desk Technician performs general duties related to routine user administration and the ongoing support and maintenance of computer systems and peripheral equipment.

  • Installs and maintains computer workstations, servers, printers and networking equipment such as switches, routers, firewalls and proxy devices.

  • Monitors production environment and ensures optimal system performance.

  • Installs and maintains network cabling and telecommunications devices.

  • Implements and deploys standard work station image systems.

  • Assists with software applications testing and deployment.

  • Initiates and completes work in accordance with the work order policy.

  • Provides software and hardware support for end-users; updates ticketing system.

  • Maintains inventory of computers, networking equipment and maintenance logs.

  • Researches new and existing technologies, techniques and best practices in support of product production as directed.


  • Technical school graduate or equivalent (ex. A+, MCP certification).

  • Experience with administration of Microsoft Windows networks.

  • Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, WINS, DNS, SMTP, SNMP, SNTP.

  • Ability to build and deploy Linux based servers and services.

  • Thorough knowledge of PC workstation and server hardware, troubleshooting and maintenance.

  • Experience with disk drive imaging software.

  • Experience with installation and maintenance of computer network cabling.

  • Understanding of the relationship between operational processes and network infrastructure, servers and services within the organization.

  • Familiarity with office automation applications such as Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Access and Word.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in an efficient manner.

  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.

  • At least two years related experience.

  • A+, MCSE, CCNA Certifications desired; present preparation for any of these certifications is acceptable.

  • Work Hours are 6:30 am to 3 pm, candidate must be willing to work a reasonably flexible schedule when needed.
