Elsevier has created a Data & Analytics organisation to define and operationalize the data and analytics vision for Elsevier’s enterprise data.  Within this new organisation, we are looking to appoint a Head of Business Analytics who will report to the Chief Data Officer.  The ideal candidate will be strategically, analytically, and intellectually robust. Can understand the ‘big picture’, identify how analytics can best serve the broader business objectives and develop a coherent and clear approach for growing analytics maturity. The candidate can effectively communicate technical requirements, outputs, to a non-technical audience, have proven success in collaborating with, and applying actionable data insights to a range of business units and functions.
Areas of Responsibilities
  • Define the vision, objectives and strategy for business analysis and advanced analytic capabilities
  • Champion the strategic value of analytics as a business asset, ensuring it becomes part of the corporate DNA
  • Serve as an expert in developing advanced analytics, data modelling and actionable insights capabilities
  • Work with business, technology, and functional leaders in prioritizing analytics activities to optimize revenue performance, cost management and operational efficiencies
  • Develop ownership, operational structure, and oversight to manage business analysis and advanced analytics capabilities
  • Explore and evaluate innovative analytic tools and techniques to optimize business outcomes
  • Stay abreast of continually changing world of analytics and proactively bring best is class opportunities to the Elsevier
  • Engage with key stakeholders and build strong relationships and networks to drive execution and overall success of the department
  • The role will also be responsible for driving the day-to-day analytical approaches and exploring solutions to business problems. 
Management Responsibilities
  • Lead a team and ensure that a good working relationship is developed and maintained between the function
  • Responsible to hire, onboard, coach and develop staff to be successful in all aspects of the job.
  • Effectively communicate and keep the team informed of strategy, plans and priorities to ensure the objectives are met
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide timely feedback to staff
  • Manage all HR and administrative matters
Qualifications & Experience
  • The candidate has a Masters’ degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Applied Math, Business Administration, or another related field.
  • 8+ years of driving analytics driven change and leveraging data based decision making
  • Proven leadership and collaboration abilities to operate effectively in a global and matrixed organization
  • Have experience in working with large data sets, computing systems and reporting and analytic tools
  • Experience in building and managing high performance teams
  • Is self-motivated, takes initiative and have excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and effect change using influencing models
  • Strong commercial acumen - apply business awareness to data interpretation and translation of analysis into insight.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation
    The ability to work on multiple projects and manage conflicting demands
  • Have transformation experience
This role can be based in London or Amsterdam.
