Developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a primary mission for LexisNexis and we are seeing the acceleration of amazing AI work being developed in the Legal space.  AI technology is evolving quickly, but “good AI” is only as good as its training data.   And LexisNexis has over 2PB of the best legal training data in the world! We are looking for an experienced leader who is devoted to developing and maintaining our data pipeline and data warehouse. This central data platform will be the hub for AI and Business Intelligence across all of LexisNexis. 

 

 

The Data Engineering Director is responsible for leading the Data Engineering team that is responsible for the collection and storage of many of our important data assets in the LexisNexis Data Warehouse.   The successful candidate must be able to quickly familiarize themselves with LexisNexis’ diverse data resources and have the ability to leverage the latest in AWS technologies to collect, maintain, and optimize the data platform.  The ideal candidate has a “we can build it ourselves” attitude and has maintained a large-scale data pipeline and data lake utilizing the AWS cloud platform.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the team a Data Engineers responsible for designing, architecting, and building the LexisNexis Data Warehouse
  • Perform database logical design, physical design & data modeling
  • Developing innovation, strategies, processes and best practices around cloud-based data warehousing
  • Writing stored procedures, functions, and ETL jobs
  • Consulting on feature design, implementation and relevant metrics like reliability and cost
  • Identifying, analyzing and resolving problems with the LexisNexis Data Warehouse
  • Performing capacity monitoring and short and long-term capacity planning
  • Scheduling and coordinating database jobs, monitor progress and completion of all jobs and take corrective action as needed

Qualifications and Experience

  • 8 + years hands-on experience building and administrating large, cloud-based databases
  • 3-5 years management experience
  • Experience running and maintaining a cloud-oriented production environment (e.g. Amazon AWS preferred)
    • Must include intimate familiarity with EC2, Redshift, RDS, and S3
    • Should have hands-on experience with Athena, DynamoDB, API Gateway, Lambda, and EMR
    • AWS Certification is a plus
  • Experience in NoSql technologies such as Spark ,Hadoop, HBase, Mapreduce
  • System Administrator experience working in both Linux/Unix (command line) and Windows environments
  • Scripting / programming experience (Perl, Ruby, Bash, PHP, Expect, C, etc.)
  • Ability to provide guidance to data scientists, engineers and other team members
  • Self-starter who is excited about technology
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science
